Surely it's better to hammer the centre caps in slightly flatter than not at all to avoid the risk of the bearings been exposed to excessive dirt and water.

you may find the wheel centre's wont go on as they can foul the centre bearing cover thingy. 3mm spacers or removal both work

Yup agree, but that only affects the rear wheels though. I ran mine without the centre caps, no biggie.

sorry bud but that is a biggie and bad advise.
Just asking for grease to mix with water and bearings seizing up.

Sorry just to clarify, I don't mean remove or run without the bearing covers, I meant the black plastic centres with the vw embloms on. I ran mine like this for over a year without any issues.

Surely those black plastic caps only serve a cosmetic use..?

Ah right, no issues running without those fitted. as you say they're simply cosmetic.

If they are fitted with mk4 tyres you will need to change them to 195/45/16's or you will screw the gearing and speedo up.

tyres on my mk3 are 195/50/15 so if using the monty 2's i assume therefore i would need 195/40/16 tyres to keep my gearing/speedo accurate

Nope 195/45/16, 205/45/16 or 215/40/16 are the choices, 215/40 was the factory size on an Anni
