Found out what the exhaust rattles were..
« on: 08 August 2013, 19:28 »
Hi all,
I posted on here a few days back about a rattling exhaust, went into National Tyres in Dorchester, and got them to look it over...
.
.
.
Needs a new rear silencer
Needs a new centre silencer
Needs a new Cat...

 :undecided: :undecided:

Been quoted £91 for the centre silencer, £190 for the rear silencer and £200 for the Cat, with the VAT and the scrap exhaust disposal gumf a total of £486.10

Any thoughts on that price, obviously that'll include fitting, tried euro car parts, and can get the parts for £219 with the forum discount, obviously I'd need gaskets and need someone to fit it..

Any other suggestion on who to try

Thanks

National tyres are notorious for finding faults that don't exist. If I was you I would get a second opinion from another garage first.

To be fair to them, I was underneath with him, I thumped the rear box, baffles are definitely gone, I seem the hole in the centre box, and the cat is rattling...no getting away with this...it's gonna need a full system :-/

I will take it to a few other places though for sure, see what they say

Sorry for sounding dense lol, but isn't the car to sort the emissions, how would it pass an MOT if I decat it?

I had thought about a stainless steel system seeing as I have to do the whole lot, any suggestions on brand?

I recently got a quote from just tyres, for a standard mk3 exhaust £175 fully fitted or a custom one for £220. so your prices sounds abit pricey imho
Model - MK3 golf Cabrio
Lump - 1.8 ADZ

DO NOT use national tyres mate pleeeeeease they are the worst place you could ever go to horrible customer service, example my mate went to have his steering wheel on his focus adjusted and they tired to tell him he needed a new steering rack, two new track rod ends and a new bolt for the steering wheel and then they wanted to charge him to get rid of the parts they wanted to replace. He went and got a 2nd opinion from the garage I use and all he needed was lazer alignment and my garage laughed at that fact that national were trying to get him to replace all that.

Secondly I personally used national once for 4 tyres when I had my focus, I just got my cossie wheels back from the painters they looked brand new, lovely gun metal grey. I took them to national and wrapped them in 4 brand new Yokohama's 4 days later one of the side walls on the tyres split, went back and they refused to change the tyre they said "you have hit a kerb or taken a knife to it to try and get a replacement" I kicked off royally, and said number 1 why the fook would I knife my own tyre you inbred idiot. Secondly if I Kerbed my wheel the paint on the wheel would also be damaged. Long story short I almost hit the prick but before I got myself arrested I left and got a new tyre from a diff garage and vowed to never ever use national again and do my best to stop others so I can watch that rip off company burn and die!

I know you could get a 3" turbo back stainless steel system with a sports cat for about £800-£900
