Remapped 1.8t anniversary
« on: 07 August 2013, 18:45 »
hi there recently had my 1.8t anniversary remapped by a local company, my dad has had plenty of cars remapped there in the past with no problem at all from a 330d to a toureg tdi, and even a passat 1.8t, but ive been experiencing some problems since having it done the day i had it done i ended up needing two coilpacks which wasn't to much of a shock as ive heard of this happening on remapped 1.8t's, but 5 days later after running fine it began idling really rough...

so i took to a bmw specialist that my dad uses and after abit of playing on the computer and looking under the bonnet he came to me and said it was just the inlet gasket, said id be okay to drive it steadily to and from work until i could get it done the day after, so i did so and about half way to work i noticed that the car was no longer boosting ? i have no warning lights shown up

i think it boosts til about 2.5k and thats it, thinking it may be limp mode but i dont know that much about cars as im a gas engineer, just wondering if this is related to the gasket or if its something else ??

should i be worried ? cars in the garage tomoro for gasket and to try sort boost
cheers jake

Are you still using the standard DV!? I'd put my money on a failed DV personally.

Check all your breather pipes coming of the rocker.. under the inlet. They would cause rough idle if split.

I had a split pipe... so then i checked all the rest  holes, splits the whole bazinga

Running rough can be the inlet mainifold gasket but if you have not touched it, it should be fine. Why not check if you can get your coil packs replace for free as a recall. You proberly have a air leak somewere on a pipe (inlet mainifold related).

Also clean your throttle body out. It made my car run bad after a remap ,but lucky r-tech that did it stayed there and when i returned after testing it i said whys it ticking over bad, he cleaned it out for free and its been mint since. You need to clean under the butterfly as well with carb cleaner on a cloth.

the mechanic showed me where the gasket was failing and sucking in the liquid he was spraying so am pretty sure it is the gasket, how do i check if i qualify for the coil pack recall ha? also getting abit too technical for me here will pass on the message about the throttle body and the air leak, what do you mean by butterfly ? cheers jake

Just pop into VW, they'll just book it in for you. They replaced all of mine free of charge and I even got a free coffee.

The butterfly is the flap inside the throttle body that opens and closes to control airflow. It gets all grimey from oil and fuel so you have to clean it up. It's a pretty simple job just do a search for throttle body cleaning.

With regards to the breather pipes, it's well worth replacing the whole lot. If you're not too bothered about keeping it OEM it's better to simplify the whole PCV system. You can bin a lot of unnecessary stuff in your bay that can cause vacuum or boost leaks.

Another cause of your loss of boost could be because of a boost pipe that's popped off. I had the same problem with mine when I had mine stage 2 mapped. It kept popping the hose off the turbo because of the increased pressure. Could be worth checking all your boost pipes to the intercooler and the charge pipe just behind the engine cover.
