Really dumb questions
« on: 15 October 2003, 13:33 »
Ok, for most of you these question will really sound dumb, but I'm still new to all this GTi stuff and just don't know.

1) PSI, My GTi has 14" alloys on (not the originals though) how do I know what the PSI should be, is it constant regardless of the tyres (forces from the car) or do the tyres/dimentions make a difference?

2) Suspension, My GTi's been lowered, a little too low for comfortable driving with the missus (also pavement pulled my spoiler off) how do you change the ride height and or comfortablility, and which should I change to make the bumps a smoother?

Ok, bring it on :P

1) Tyre pressures should be on your petrol cap.
2) You will probably have to change the suspension springs, unless the kit on there is adjustable.

Ok I'll check that. Are type pressures are constant regardless of rim/tyres?

I'll check out the suspension try to get a make, I do know that when I jacked it up to check out the gear linkages it went a long way before the wheels left the ground.

14" & 15"'s rule of thumb for a mk2 Gti  - 30/31 fronts  30/28 rears - would be the average (depending on wheel diametre)

"Scraping" - unless you have adjustables - you're gonna have to drive carefully over speed bumps/garage forecourts/garage ramps - (why the hell you driving up kerbs?).

You can buy new std springs - assuming you have a 30mm drop.

Wasn't the kerb just the access to drive way, camber combination, if I back in to drive way and drive out I have no problems.
