Aircon Issues?
« on: 05 August 2013, 18:23 »
Hi guys, recently I've been doing some work on my dads Golf, I've got all the issues he had sorted apart from the air con. As far as I could tell it only needed regassing as he said it gradually got warmer until there was no coldness at all. I got one of those kits from halfords and regassed it. The pressue is correct and it doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere but it just isn't getting colder. I can hear the pump engage and I've checked all the fuses, the fans come on fine etc so I'm not really sure where to look next. The only thing that seems different to mine is that when the air con is engaged I can hear noises from the blower area like moving liquid, which I'm presuming is the refrigerant moving through the evaporator or could this be an issue? anyone any Ideas? I've already posted this over at ukmkivs but my dad is harassing me about it so i figured I'd as on here as well

I would try and refill it again on a cold morning. Read the comments on halfords web site. Its like trying to refill a lighter with gas ,but the lighters warm so only a tiny bit of gas goes into it, if done when cold you can fill the lighter right up with gas. Worth a try.

Just take it to a specialist for leak testing and regassing, Halfords kit is a waste of time and money, air con is not really a diy fix.

As above, there's more to it than just filling it up yourself

Isn't it only around 40-50 quid to get done by a specialist anyways? Although I hate taking my car there, Kwikfit will give you it free if they cannot get it to a certain percentage lower in temperature than when you came in.

Kwikfit will probably bugger it up meaning they cannot get it to a certain percentage lower in temperature than when you came in.

Fixed :afro:

Due to time issues I had kwik fit sort mine before the holiday, it is still working at the moment.

They charge £59 but test for free.
