Anyone holding out for the Mk8 Golf GTI?
« on: 03 August 2013, 18:31 »
We all know VW as most other manufacturers are launching new models much earlier than in the past.  We know the Mk6 was effectively a heavily facelifted Mk5, plus the different 2.0TSI engine etc.

Total guesswork but the Edition 40 (I'm sure there will be one) should be here in 2016, so Mk8 GTI likely to be 2017 only fours years from now.

The MQB setup will certainly be around for at least 10 years, so will the Mk8 be an evolution all be it predominately a face lift of the Mk7?

I wouldn't be surprised to see 'unofficial' pictures two years from now   :undecided:

Point is when is a shelf life of the latest GTI too soon to change again for the next incarnation?

It's all a bit Doctor Who

Not sure what you're saying too me, anyway the Mk6 GTI launched in 2009 four years ago, makes sense the Mk8 GTI will launch four years from now, no?

It seems crazy to even discuss something that may or may not start arriving with customers in a five year timeframe.

There's a very good chance it will, but when you buy depends on what you want.  For me, it's not like this GTI will be my last or even penultimate car that I ever buy.  Is like technology - something new to replace it will always be coming out, but I just buy what I want when I want it, knowing I can change in the future if/when I want to.

That's my point, I agree with you, you didn't buy the Mk6 GTI and are now buying a Mk7 GTI which is what you desire at this point in time.

But......as the change is likely to be every four years for the latest NEW GTI, will that put people off, I don't know I'm just opening it up for debate

AAddict - I've been criticised extensively, I take it on the chin, but what if a do have a drink problem or any other problem, should you be insinuating that I'm doing something when you have no idea whatsoever?

Yup, I bought the Mk5 because it was such a huge step up all around, but the Mk6, at least for me, was a bit of a step backward in terms of aesthetics so I skipped it.  I didn't intend on buying a Mk7 when I did, but when I saw it I just knew that was the one.  Whatever comes out in the future will get due consideration as and when!
