I recon with a little 'breaking in' and sensible driving 45MPG will be achievable buddy

Great review, really appreciated Rik!  I hope you're right about the mpg.  I honestly would be a bit disappointed if it didn't get to 40, I currently get 38 and not sacrificing economy was part of the draw that lead to me placing an order...

Cheers again.

No problem chaps.
I have been slightly heavy footed - its hard not to

P.S. I was running on standard unleaded 95 Ron - where you guys will probably use 97 Ron - I'm just a tight wad

Edit: just been out and checked the long term average - I have not reset this and I imagine its 'since birth' so to speak.
Showing 36 MPG

Well - in my 6 cylinder beemer (with my driving style) - 95Ron lowest mpg =18mpg but 97 lowest was 26mpg
So 4 years ago with my beemer - it made a difference - Was using the Total stuff

With the diesel - the ultimate stuff makes a difference in the wifes Zafira - but non at all in the Golf!

So, it is very subjective, and I suppose it depends on how old the car is and how its tuned

Rik

thanks for the write up, good to hear how it is to live with the car for a few days.

Hope the fuel economy improves though, I never get less than 28mpg from my 330 ci and easily get 36 on a long run so it should be better than that !

I didnt bloody sleep last night pndering GTi, no M135, no GTi  :undecided:

Rik: The eco mode does seem to frustrate more than it helps. In anything with a DSG it is awful. ADC speed recovery after a slowdown of the traffic ahead is epically slow with the DSG. Heavy footing eco mode because it frustrates is no more economical than setting it up in normal in the first place. You get the freewheeling option in eco with DSG (they could have so easily incorporated it into normal and sport - if you're not accelerating then what difference should it make what mode you are in?). My dad has given up on eco mode on his GTD DSG.

Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I've not even tried eco mode on mine yet. I've switched from Normal to sport to comfort and have to say i dont notice a great deal of difference. It's the same with the variable ratio steering, it doesn't feel any different to me from a normal setup but then that's just me. My senses arent up to much

Wouldn't be so bad if it didn't seem like the car bulges out.  Do you know what I mean?  On the sides and the front its like it gets narrower towards the bottom?!?!
