Just a quick note

Keyless - Loving it, it works very well, wishing I had ordered it now

Its great, keys in pocket and never need to get them out - just walk up to the car, open the door, get in and press the start button.
The funny thing I have noticed is there are all scratches around where the ignition would normally be :)

I wonder if I add to my order - would it delay ??
Mind you, without a confirmed date, and the un-confirmed date moving 3 times - would I even know?

I've ordered keyless and and so glad I did.  However, the first thing I will be checking is the area around where the ignition key would normally go, and if there are any scratches, that'll be high on the snag list.  Ford kinda' got that right with their keyless start (at least on the new Focus) because the key is secured inside the fob itself and cannot flip out.  If you want access to the key, it's a slightly fiddly job to remove it, so no risk of scratches on the ignition cover.

My GTD demo last week had a heavily scratched column from people forgetting it was keyless - VW need to make it just a little inconvenient to reveal the key from the fob if you need to unlock the doors manually.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Rick I urge you to go for the Keyless system (its the only optional extra I've added and something you'll use each and every time you drive the car). It very probably won't add anything to you build time "as long as you're not in confirmed lock-down". But check with your dealer/VW UK CS first!!!

Don't regret anything Rik. Read my stories about switching from a GTD to a GTI

Ok - My Last Day with the fleet demo.
Been for long run - from Derby up to East Yorkshire and back
For the figures - the car has done 2800 miles - so may still be 'tight'

So - A38 - M1 - M18 - M62 - A roads to finish - almost bang on 100 mile each way
No stops, a little overtaking on A roads  and the A roads varied 60, 40, 30 mph mixed

I tested a couple of modes and speeds going up - resetting the counter each time

Motorway - Normal Mode - 80 mph = 34MPG
Motorway - Eco Mode - 85 - 90 mph = 35MPG

Way back - all the way in Normal mode
A roads sticking to 30, 40 where applicable - national limit doing 65 - 70
Motorways - 80mph
Averaged 33MPG

A note on Eco Mode - its weird on the GTI - I have used it on a Diesel and it was OK, but on the GTI it adds some serious Lag to any change of speed, and on the mway, when you let your foot up off the pedal - its cuts fuel and revs drop to about 1000. when you put foot down again, its sort of like going into too low a gear and then recovers itself. Very Odd - didn't like Eco.

This car is fantastic, comfortable, refined, composed, and very quiet inside even on motorway.
Those of you waiting for a GTI are going to love it - and dare I say - its well worth the wait.
Its hard for me to compare my MK6 GT TDI to the GTI on performance and engine, but build quality, ride, comfort and handling are much improved. It feels very composed on the road.
As for it being a GTI - it goes like stink (seriously), and everyone looks at it - it draws attention!

The keyless entry is brilliant - I love it - thought I would hate it, but I now want on mine - Choose it!

Winter pack - nice to have - helped my bad back :)

Discover navigation Pro - Fab :-
Screen fantastic, well thought out menus, cover art comes across, phone contact photos come across.
Music copied to internal SSD - slow copy, but fine once there - 12GB available for use
Navigation - good, it took me the way I would have gone anyways :) - voice clear and says the road and place names correctly (nav devices usually pronounce places wrong) - One note and its weird.... when it says numbers .... instead of for example eighteen - it sort of says it like American - 'ehydeen' if that makes sense - defiantly 'D'een instead of 'T'een.

DynAudio
Just for you guy's I have half deafened myself with a range of music from AC/DC to Vivaldi - and at varying volumes from sublime to down right deafening. All 320kbps MP3
Its very very good :) even at high volume the sound is clear and individual instruments can be picked out clearly (obviously not in the AC/DC LOL).
I'm still not sure I would splash this much cash on it though....... I cannot say its that much better - unless of course you want the big boom boom from the bass, and very high volume.

Apart from filling it up with fuel (which made me cry) :) - I have loved every minute with it and if my GTD is anywhere near as good - I will be a very happy chappie !!

I hope this helps people - and for those of you with outstanding orders, I hope they come quickly for you - you are going to love it

Fantastic mate! Really appreciate the write up, 35mpg at 85-90 isn't too bad tbf and if i'm doing my usual driving miss daisy trip up the m6 with the missus aboard at ~70, i reckon i could get close to my "acceptable" 45mpg!?

Thanks again mate, all the info is making the wait a little more bearable!

I recon with a little 'breaking in' and sensible driving 45MPG will be achievable buddy

EDIT: Although I will just say that doing 70 is almost impossible in this thing

Great review, really appreciated Rik!  I hope you're right about the mpg.  I honestly would be a bit disappointed if it didn't get to 40, I currently get 38 and not sacrificing economy was part of the draw that lead to me placing an order...

Cheers again.
