Engine runs, then cuts out
« on: 31 July 2013, 09:23 »
Hello chaps,

I started my engine this morning (2002 AUM) and it cut out after a few moments. I started again a few more times and the same thing has happened. I notice a strong smell of fuel.

My fault code reader doesn't read any faults but on the readiness check comes up with the following failures,

Evap sys: Fail

SecAirSys: Fail

O2Sensor: Fail

Heated O2: Fail

Ok, had an O2 failure some years back, had a strong smell of fuel, yet the car did run, but I don't recall the other failures happening before *scratches head*

Any help or guidance? Cheers.

My AUM did this twice but both times I noticed that the immbiliser light was showing on the dash.

My AUM did this twice but both times I noticed that the immbiliser light was showing on the dash.

Mines not doing that, different symptoms and notable strong smell of fuel.

I had a spare temp sensor knocking about, so put that in and the car now stays running, although not perfectly, but it's been lumpy and bumpy for a while anyway.

Have code 16486 is present now, which is a MAF low signal code, so could be something to do with it. It's certainly given me problems in the past, so may not be such a bad idea to replace it now to eliminate it.

Does it run any better with the MAF unplugged?

Can't really say that it does, though I've not actually driven it, I let it idle and just moved it about in case it stalls again. Maybe it's because I've let the car warm up now that it appears better.

Perhaps I ought to investigate the supply to heat the O2 sensors too seeing as the readiness check says that failed.

Just to add, the readiness tests in post 1 which came back as 'failed', are not actually giving me any fault codes as a failed device.
