I don't know 16v's but it may be worth using a multimeter to check what the battery is putting out. What the alternator is putting out ect. Just to make sure the electrics are working as they should. The alternator may not be kicking in on idle and needs a rev to get going. Check electrics with multimeter and someone here who knows what they are on about should be able to help more.

It's back! The battery is simply not getting any charge from the new alternator, think it could be the wiring loom from alternator to starter to battery, although I curious to know is there a earth from the alternator or does the alternator bracket and supporting arm work as the earth? If any one can help on the above its appreciated

Chek the blue exciter wire from the alternator. The often rot through within the rubber connector and it won't send the current to the battery.

Just an update incase anyone runs into the same problem, so having fitted 2nd alternator after having tested the first one as faulty the problem of the battery going flat returned, so called in the sparky and the alternator wasn't earthing due to the fact I had had the alternator bracket and arm powder coated so scrapped the powder coating off around the bolt positions and jobs a goodin so if you any of you people powder coat your alternator arm expect the problem unless you scrap
