Too good to be true? K04
« on: 24 July 2013, 17:37 »
Just scrolling through ebay looking for any mods I require going cheap when I spyed this :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/K04-Turbocharger-Turbo-Upgrade-VW-1-8T-20V-Bora-Golf-TT-A3-Skoda-Ocatavia-Seat-/370860130980?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5658fc82a4

Surely this can't be right cause as far as I'm aware upgrading to k04 is a relatively big job with all the supporting mods. The way this is advertised it's a straight bish bash bosh swap and ur away.

My guess is its either not going to give much performance benefits over the ko3s or it simply won't work without the mods needed like 3" maf and injectors or it won't fit at all haha.

What you guys think?

I've tuned 2 cars with these on now.. first one hit a wall at 200bhp, next one 210 but that had a 3" exhaust the first was only 2.5"

keep saving buy a proper turbo!

Cheers for the feedback

Reckon once I'm finished with the cosmetics of my car  I'm going to go down the k04-001 route as I'm led to believe they bolt on instead of the ko3s without needing much of any modification. Seeing as I already have a 3" exhaust am I right in thinking a 3" maf  , Audi s3 injectors , Fmic and a remap is all i really need?

More research has revealed that there isn't much difference in the k04-001 and the ko3s :/

there are differences between the two but not enough to warrent the cost of upgrading over a K03s based on experience having both turbos.

K04-001 seem to max out around 260-270 and K03s 240-250 without WMI, both make around the same amounts torque wise, given the cost of a geniune K04-001 it is a lot of money for 10-20bhp more something that a meth setup could do for a lot less on a K03s.

If changing turbo again I would much rather go for a good proven reliable hybrid than a K04-001
