If it pumps more oil then there is a chance it could up the pressure, do both blocks hold the same amount of oil?
Worth checking but I would think they would fit/be ok.
I've got a Mk2 one on the shelf be good to know if its ok for my agg

yeah both engines hold 4 litres. the thing that confusing me is that it is only the gear that are longer (36 to 30mm). they will be turning at same speed and they are same diameter so not sure really. there must have been a reason to increase the gear length. guess I could just put it on and see what happens. the mk2 pump would be fine on the agg as that never had the piston oil squirters fitted like the earlier 2e engine did. you would need to machine the pump driveshaft for crankshaft clearance though.

Bigger meshing teeth would suggest more volume being pumped, cant see it being a problem as the engines are near identical.
May show up as tappet seal leaking or weeps from sealing areas, but you might get this if you stick on a new pb pump thats got some umpf in it

yeah maybe. the reason is that I put new hydro lifters in the engine about a month ago and im getting that intermittent ticking of them already. well maybe 1 or 2 of them. so im thinking instead of having to fork out for oil viscosity improver every oil change I could stick in a stronger pump and run it on the common 10/40 and hopefully gain a few psi. just enough to stop the lifters bleeding down when the oil gets hot. I suppose I could try 20/50 in it as is but that grade of oil seems to be hard to find now. anyway im running it at the moment with a half litre of atf in the oil so that might clean out whatever dirt is causing the lifter to tick.

Why not replace the pump with a new correct one if the pressure is low

hi I already have a good agg pump to try on it. the thing is if I fit a pump with extra capacity I wouldn't have to bother with viscosity improver. I was thinking if the agg pump gears are 36mm compared to 30mm on the pb pump then that is a 20% increase so if im getting 20psi pressure at idle then that should go up about 20% to 24psi which might just be enough to shut my lifters up. I guess there is only one way to find out.

Well I doubt a PB will fit as the AGG is a tall block, I would pick up a brand new oil pump to suit the AGG

Look pretty similar on etka, take it into europarts and offer it up for free

I think the OP is still missing the point by a long way here, the standard oil pump on an AGG is more than up to the job in hand lets be honest people have turbo'd them and are still running the standard oil pump.

If your tappets are noisy then why look to up the oil pressure or use a viscosity improver (10/40 or 15/40 semi synth oil will be fine btw) at the end of the day you have low oil pressure plus knackered tappets again plain and simple.

Raising the oil pressure might seem a good idea but you end up causing more problems in the long run with gaskets letting go etc.

I think your looking at this, from completely the wrong angle, have you dropped the sump and checked the pick up guaze, it would be my first port of call.
