Double DIN stereo suggestions for mk5 please
« on: 18 July 2013, 08:57 »
Just bought a mk5 and want to upgrade the standard stereo to something with Bluetooth and ideally sat nav.
Any suggestions as to what model I should go for? Budget is around £400 and I want a double DIN.
Interested to hear what people are running.
Also, how hard is it to remove and then fit an aftermarket one?! Does any trim need to be removed to get the existing one out?

Cheers

X2 on the above.. Want to get rid of the RCD300. Personally I do want to keep with the OEM look but the canbus Gateway needs to be updated on my car and this adds almost another £100 to the cost :/

£400ish ought to get you an RNS315 from the current range of cars.

It's got bluetooth, nav, SD card reader and DAB all built in as well as the option of adding an MDI interface. You'll need an later CAN Gateway, a phone mic, GPS antenna and some coding to get it all working.

On the Mk5 you need to remove the trim around the radio and the vent panel on the top of the dash above it. There are loads of how to's on the interweb. If you fit an aftermarket radio, you will need a facia adapter as well.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
