Hello Peeps, those of you with a good memory will remember a week ago or so about
my engine troubles after fitting a 2e bottom end to find it's knockin' like a bag of spanners being shook...
Well now it's a different story. Just swapped the bottom end for another 2e tall block and got it all rebuilt and put in. Purrs like a cat.
The bits you need to buy are as follows:
Distributor Spacer - the gear on the bottom of the distributor of a 1.8 is totally wrong, you need to purchase a spacer from TSR, costs£ 23.50. (EZ/2.0CON1)
You have to use the 1.8 dizzy with the new gear from a 2.0 dizzy and the spacer above.
You need a breather plate also from TSR and a breather bung from guess where?
I also bought a metal heavy duty head gasket - almost £45!!!
A TSR manifold (4-1) for a short block 1.8, they now make a manifold for the 2.0 tall block! Yes, I was pissed off...... I had to put a spacer in the front engine mount to rock the engine back slightly, I also grinded out the bottom of the bulk head and welded a small archway in there to make room for the manifold.
Full system Jetex exhaust (manifold back)
Just getting the pennies together now for a Pack A head and cam from TSR.
I have took her for a spin, she's got sooooooooooo much more power bottom and mid-range that I don't feel the need to rag it like I did the 1.8 (after 180,000 miles and bad service history it was v.tired tho)
I am no expert on engines or mechanics but myself and a family friend mechanic did the conversion on my driveway in about 2 weeks after all the messing about trying to source the bits.
Anyway, as I said, no expert but I'll try to help out if anyone is looking at the conversion...
Knobby, you are gonna freakin love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The speedo needle seems to make a clean sweep right round to 120 mph, not as quick as that video but still quick!
Anyway good luck to anyone havin a go at doing it themselves!
Mark
