Depends on miles really. 10w 40 might be better.

its just hit 112,000, paper work shows old owner had engine rebuilt @ 80,000 ish so im not sure what exactly to use.

I'd go with the 10w/40 semi as mentioned by Tweed.

Hi mate, I was in your shoes around a year ago, and I posted nothing on here, as I knew all I would get was, 16v, vr6, 1.8t blah blah. So I did lots of research and was all but ready to go down the supercharged route. I then decided on doing bike carbs due to ease and cost and clean looks really. Have you looked at ITB's or bike carbs??

Also there is shed loads more info on Vortex, due to the yanks tuning the 8v a hell of a lot more then here.

A well put together ITB'd 8v could breeze your goal. Would cost £1500-£2500 depending on management and where you have manifolds made, ECU's wired in etc.

Bike carbs done right could see 160-170BHP. Sub £1500 if your willing to do some leg work to get it done. Easy conversion.

If you are interested in bike carbs I can give you more info as I did a lot digging and research before I did mine.

Best of luck to you.

As cool as bike carbs look and sound aren't they a step backwards in terms of efficiency and reliability?  :undecided:

In terms of effiency... Maybe, however they seem to make more power then the standard injection.

As for reliability, it's in a whole new league. Apart from the coil pack dying on the A1 last week, it runs smoother and more reliable.

Also contrary to popular belief, there not that un-economical. I did 250m in 3 trips over a weekend and drive about as uneconomically as possible and it made 25mpg. Round town again, driving rather uneconomically it makes 15-20.

Its not all about BHP tho, its about hoe it drives. My car revs to 8.5k and flies round the clock. It may only be slightly more power then a 16v but I've yet to meet one that stay anywhere near me. It could just do with a longer 4th gear.

how on earth do you get an 8 valve agg to rev to 8500k? did you put the cylinder head on without the valves in it lol

mate go for a 16v box and fit a VR6 final drive

mine is similar ratios to this however iv got the mk4 02J box from a mk4 GTI 2.08v  (same ratios as 16v mk3 but ib fitted a Wavetrac limited slip diff and VR6 Final drive, seen my car bounce off the 160 MPH mark

Ahh cool, been trying to come up with a solution. Can i get a VR6 Fd loose or will I have to buy both full boxes??

My car seems to hit 127 in 4th with 1.5k left.
130 with about 2.5k left to pull in 5th :(

Would a LSD be worth the expense??

Thanks for the advice buddy.
