Decent cam, air box mods, ported tb and inlet will see 135 ish bhp.
Lower fd and light flywheel will give you some response in acceleration, add nos and you have 150ish bhp.
Thats it for 8v without spending bucks on forced induction and an engine that can take the extra strain.
Engine management to run turbo is even more.

I bought a tdi engine to use for a petrol turbo, ghetto style granted but with a few bits I reckon I can make it work.
Trouble is im lazy

Don't listen to the haters. I made a low boost turbo set up (8psi) for my 1.8 16v clio years back for just under a grand. The most expensive bit was sorting the ecu, but since then iv used a couple of unichip units. These unit can be brought off eBay to save a few quid and be wire in by yourself if you can get the diagram then take it to be remapped. Research, trawl ebay for parts and be creative with the welder.
iv keep toying with the idea of turboing my 8v too. Do it! I might start collecting parts when i get back of my hols in September. Crack on pal, what's the worst that can happen to the motor? Blow it? £200 for a new one. Let us know how you get on

Anyway yes thats what you need to short shift. Might be a good idea getting some new bushes for the rest of the shifter set up as they can wear out but check how yours feels. Sure u can get repair kits still off ebay for 20 quid.

i know a guy named Brian in derby, place called POWERHOUSE, he has the old AE82 mk1 gt corolla hatchback,
with a turbo setup, and some how he managed to do a 4x4 conversion to it,
believe me this guyS Corolla has put impreza's to shame, il look up to see a video on his corolla,  he was willing to turbo charge my mk2 golf 16v for around £2000 +VAT(4 years ago) was saying a basic turbo setup would run fine, as long as boost is set at a safe 4-5 psi...(HALF A BAR) or even supercharge it.

That dont sound good. You will want a strong gearbox if your gonna be running more power. Sound like worn syncro between the gears. Try changing gear oil first it sometime can help matters.

Depends on miles really. 10w 40 might be better.
