Tuning my Golf Gti mk3
« on: 14 July 2013, 23:29 »
I know people say its not worth it and its really costly, but i want to tune up my golf 8v to around 150-180bhp
(i know i sound crazy but thats me) please dont ask me to do a engine swap, im not going down that route cheers,
im also including Nos as a edition to reach 180bhp, and a basic turbo setup pushing 3-5 psi max, (anyone do custom map turbo setup on here) inbox prices pls.
can someone give me a list on how to go about this?
how to start off?
Advice  neeeded urgently off everyone who can give me a pointer,
Its currently got stainless steel back box and removed that big silcencer box that is attached behind back box, airfilter.

i need a step by step modification to reach this BHP, also quote the garage that will carry out the work, i live near midlands, i will keep everyone updated in my signature as a checklist on whats happening.

you should easily see 180bhp with a decent turbo set up. even without the nos. as for the cost. pretty frightening I would imagine.

a very basic turbo setup, 3-5 psi and it shouldnt harm the 8v engine,
i know cams and a chip would be a good start? what about ecu? standard ok or would i have to use custom? if custom point me towards the right direction please, who does them, all info appreciated. fuel pump? use vr6 one?

Have a look on the US vw sites as well as American ebay for parts, there also used to be some good threads on vw vortex as turbocharging the 8v is popular across the pond although their 8v used a slightly different engine.

I think Nuespeed sell supercharger kits for the 2.0 8v, but they might be specific to the US ABA engines.

Ive cammed my 8v and with chip, lightened flywheel, head port and polish, same with tb you should get 150bhp
any more and you will need wild cam, high compression pistons, knife edge crank, itb's and a costom map with aftermarket ecu. You should get about 170/180bhp

but your looking at £10,000.

So do what im doing. Sell up and buy a m3. Straight 6 itb's as standard and 350bhp

Buy a 16v for a few hundred quid and you'll have 150bhp straight away.
