is it normal to lose mpg's
« on: 09 July 2013, 18:37 »
I've recently put on an s2000 filter and noticed the mpg has dropped to an average of around 23 mpg around town and when I was running the standard panel filter I was getting an average of 25-25 mpg.

Would the filter lower the mpg or should I start looking where the problem lies

What's the point of the s2000 filter?

Because I'm a tart and like the sound and more so I can hear my dv
But it's too big to even use a heatshield properly as there is too much strain on all parts involved.

Everything on my car is standard apart from the dv, so I'm guessing I don't even need an s2000 size filter at the moment but just not sure of what other choices I have to give me the induction kit roar and the tshh from the dv

As shocking as it may seem, you probably are flowing slightly more air for a given throttle position. Therefore burning the extra fuel. Probably doesn't account for all the loss of economy though, as 10% is a fair bit.

Running without a heat shield is probably not the best idea. It's unlikely to make anything go pop, but nice chilly air is the ticket ;)

There is one sure fire way to find out, stick a proper filter back on it and see what happens.

+1 you have to be prepared for loss in fuel if you're adding bigger suckers on mate, more air+morespeed=morefuel

Noise ? What noise?..... It's sh!t

I've taken the heatshield off now anyway as it wouldn't sit properly onto the maf. So knowing my luck it will run like a bag of sh!te lol
