1.4 multi point injection, so basically the next thing down from a 1.6 GSI. I had a 1.3SR before this with twin 40's, Kent cam, Piper exhaust system, 4 branch manifold and some other bits and pieces - was pretty friggin lairy for a first car.

A lad I knew had a Nova Sport. Similar spec to your SR if I remember correctly, but with base spec trim level. That thing was wild too.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I am afraid that the show has fallen into the same trap that so many other shows before have also fallen for. They have lost the genuine feel of doing it for the joy of doing it, and tried to offer what they think people want. Many shows fall for this trap and ultimately end up staging junk that has lost the feel and excitement of the original show. I will admit that I at one time enjoyed the repo shows, as well. Eventually it became obvious that they were scripting most of the show, and almost none of it was real or genuine. I think that Top Gear has done the same thing and begun to try and make the show something it simply is not.

Here the producer of Top Gear responds to the question of weather Top Gear is going to grow up.
Radiotimes - Andy Willman Interview

Quote
"I scoured the wall thoroughly but, bottom line, almost everything we’d filmed was, once again, aimed at people with a mental age of nine.

I gave that last point some thought and quickly realised that it was too important to mess around with. If you’re actually nine, you need something to watch that isn’t a computer screen, and if you’re 29, 39 or 59, part of your brain will most likely still have a mental age of nine, and that part struggles to get nourishment. Modern life for adults is, after all, bloody hard. The workplace is not freer, but more regimented by management systems and nonsense enforced by going on “courses”. Email hasn’t decreased the workload but in fact piled it on. The demand to be accountable and produce results hangs heavy over every worker, and by the weekend they need a release valve. That’s where we come in – an hour a week where three badly dressed middle-aged men bicker, fall over and catch fire. An hour a week where nothing is achieved, but the path to nine-year-old escapism is briefly lit up. This is an important service we provide, and therefore essential that being nine should remain a massive remit of our films. "

OMG I am livid I have just witnessed them blowing up a perfectly good mk2 16v gti!!!! The other 2 are sh!te but still classic hot hatches and its sad that they have absolutely no respect for them. Yes its mildly amusing but I hate to see them do this to cars I would give my right arm for!!

Now..being a mk2 16v owner I thought this would be a film about how it's better than modern GTI's. Instead it was pointless dicking about. Nothing to do with the cars, just the "cool 80's".

Could have just cut and paste any 80's /90's car in there and it would have been the same film.

What a wasted hour.
