Sorry to hear about the damage but you will be able to pick the repairer you want it sorted at .
I left our new gtd at the airport hotel while on holiday last year I picked the spot to park and at end of row away from most other cars and its the first time ever I have been worried about a car left there SAD or what ! !. .

No totally normal!

I even take a photo with my phone of the cars that are parked either side of me when i leave it.

As regards to declaring raer LED's on my insurance I never even gave it a thought, I can declare any mods and it doesnt affect the premium so will wait until I get her back then let them know what I've done 

Thank god you hadn't started cleaning it. 

Always think it's wise to declare mods then you're on safe ground in the event of anything happening 

Is there much difference looks-wise between your rear LEDs and the OEM VW ones?  If the insurer assumes they are OEM then wouldn't they just replace the damaged one?  Hope you don't end up with mismatched lights!

The insurer would work off your chassis code so this would highlight the fact they are not oem, everything non standard needs declaring to your insurer.

They do indeed work off the chassis code, the repairers rang me up saying there is a problem with the lights as the one that has turned up is nothing like the one that is fitted. Trying to get a full set of VW ones now but I have a bad feeling about this now

If you have legal protection and she's admitted responsibility they can recover your excess, but in my experience it takes a while. Bear in mind that insurance companies will ask if your excess was recovered, because it's a good indicator of 'no fault', so worth pursuing for that alone.

I have a tiny car park ding on my nearside rear arch. No paint damage and so small that it may have been there when I bought the car. I only detected it when checking after Herr German parked ridiculously close in a massive car park space.

So they've been sent an original non LED light presumably.

I would do what Neil gti suggested and be totally honest with the repairer so they can source the same kind you fitted or if you're lucky you can talk them into replacing with a complete set of oem LEDs.  Can't see that they would have a problem with that.  They'll be getting their money regardless.  Hope you get it sorted ok.

Yes sir I have legal protection and I have been informed I don't have to pay any excess as she has admitted liability and it is a NO fault claim but I fear my premium will go up

If they've gone off the chassis code then they will have been sent an OEM halogen rear light as that is what my car had when built.

I can tell them where to get the lights from but nobody sells only one light, they come as a complete set. Thats why I think only OEM LED will have to go on.

I think this is going to get messy and I'm going to be out of pocket

The garage doing the repairs have been in touch and have said the other insurance company (not mine, the woman that hit me) will not pay for a full set of OEM VW rear LED's but they will buy these:

You've given them some alternative options, so wait and see what they come back with.
