Memory Card

Does anyone know if the mk7 will take a micro USB card that fits into an adaptor. You can get 64gb micro SD cards on fleabag for less than 15 quid.

You want a micro USB card and a micro SD card for storage or you want to convert micro SD to standard SD to use it? Plenty of Micro SD to standard SD card adapters, most Sandisks and Kingston Memory cards come with an adapter to make micro SD into standard SD. Best value for money will be a 32Gb class 10 micro SD card, unless you have a colossal music collection at high bitrate (>320kbps) you'll probably not put a dent in a 32Gb card. Keep an eye out on HotUKDeals for SD card deals.

Did we establish whether the MK7 accepts all SD variants like XCSD(64Gb and up), HCSD (up to 32Gb) etc, whether it'll only recognise the first 16/32/64Gb of the respective card etc or any other system limitations?

Yes we did.

SD, SDHC, SDXC up to 64gb and I think 128gb... I see no reason why an SD with micro SD wouldn't work, the Nav won't know there is a difference.

I took mcmaddy to mean that he might find difficulty in obtaining a card adapter - micro SD cards seem to be more and more the norm now, due to mobile phones - maybe he's seen a lot of micro cards (without adapters) and not to many standard sized cards or adapters.

I have a 64Gb SDXC Sandisc Ultra III in my camera that is extremely quick to write under burst mode. It is a micro SD form with an adapter that does not compromise usability or performance - the system will not know the difference, whether used for music or satnav.

Do they not usually come with adapters?

Some do and some don't. There's usually less than a quid in it if you choose a variant with adapter. I think the assumption more and more is that smaller is better and so some cards come without.

Micro SD with adapter will be fine, and adapters are easy to come by.  For mine I bought a really cheap SanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC to store all my music on.  I could stream from my phone but I'd rather just have it all there built in.

Just out of interest why would people put music on a memory card rather than their phone?

I want all of the music I want at all times in my car with no reliance on anything external.  That way, no matter who is in my car and why, music is on tap.

Ah fair point I suppose.
