Got an 03 plate gt TDi with the chocolate can problem so need to replace the camshaft and bits, can some one tell me why it makes the induction noise so loud when this happens?

Had a thought overnight is it that the cam can't open the exhaust valve and when the inlet opens the exhaust gasses travel back up through the inlet ?

I think if the inlet valves are only opening a small amount it will increase the air velocity through them.

http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/complete-camshaft-kit-for-1-9-8v-pd-engines.html

That is the kit you want. Far cheaper than VW.

Cheers scarr!
Although I think I have got a good deal, that lot
+ bolts
+ cambelt kit for £393 inc vat !

Only thing I don't have is the pulley removal tool.

Absolutely. When I do mine I won't need a cam belt kit as I did mine a short while ago.

Go to your local garage, see if you can borrow one. Or google one to 'hire'...are you DUY following a guide?

No I will just do it myself. I'm a mechanic so just like another job but not in the workshop ! Doing it for a trader and he is away for a week so might take the camshaft to work to take the pulley off.

Forgot to update on this one! Did the job last wknd and went really well 1 cam lobe was badly worn and one lifter was knackered with the rest showing signs of wear. I had to use a press to get the cam pulley off the old shaft. Car runs as it should now  if anyone else has this problem let me know, always willing to help out.
