Since we're talking about wipers I have a question.  How much control do you have over the interval?

I like the way my Ford works.  It has 'Fast', 'Very Fast', and 'Intermittent'.  When it is in the intermittent mode you can use a scroll wheel to increase or decrease the time delay between each wipe.  Thats surprisingly useful!  Does the GTI have anything like this?

You can control the sensitivity of the rain sensor with a little switch on the wiper stalk, but not the actual intermittent wipe like you could on older cars without rain sensors. I find the rain sensor works quite well, if only the wipers themselves didn't judder.

I'm guessing this determines how wet it gets before the wipers activate?  Then it just operates until its considered dry?  Sorry for my ignorance, not used rain sensors before.

Yeah, pretty much. You don't want them coming on too soon, or the screen will be too dry or occasionally you'd get a  shock with them coming on for no particular reason at all.
Somewhere around the middle-75% setting I find works well.

Yep, that's right Bear.  All the way to the left means it'll only go off every now and then, all the way to the right is ultra sensitive.  It's not to be trusted though!!!

1 notch from right has always been my preferred setting. You have the option of normal intervals too if you don't trust the rain sensor - just knock the stalk itself up a click or 2 beyond the auto function on the first click. I have found that in an absolute deluge, the rain sensor cannot cope and is much slower than "ludicrous speed" interval at the top of the stalk movement.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Good news, they've fixed my lights.
I only got half the story on the phone, but the jist of why it took so long is that VW changed the lighting wiring (?) in MY14 cars and they were looking at diagrams for MY14 car when my car is in fact MY13. Goodness knows what VW changed in there, but who cares, its working as it should now!

Hopefully you will get your rear lights working properly Joe but really disappointing to hear about the wipers. That could be a source of huge frustration for the majority of us

Got the car back anyway and the lights are now working properly! The indicators look excellent, flashing the entire width of the cluster... very Audi-like.
