« on: 29 June 2013, 18:29 »
Hi I have a 2012 gti with a rcd 510 radio, is it where I live or is everybody elses DAB radio a waste of time, every station I try is 30 second on then 30 seconds off, is there a special aerial that is needed or is the window aerial sufficient for the job?. would never spec a dab radio if ordering a new car, bought car as a pre -reg so was already fitted.Any ideas ?

All DAB radios need a special and separate aerial to pick up DAB radio stations.

if it's a factory fired radio then you shouldn't need additional aerials.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

I thinking of adding DAB to my Mk2 has anyone had experience of either the Alpine CDE-136BT or Kenwood KDC-BT73DAB?

DAB can vary from horrible to atrocious down here.

When you (rarely) get a decent signal it sounds horrible, the rest of the time it's just useless.

DAB sound is truly awful - like really heavily compressed mp3s.

FM outperforms it at every level yet for some reason people seem to think that just because it's new it's better.

If it wasn't for 6 music we would have binned our DAB radios a long time ago

Andy it must be your location then as dab sound quality in the north east and surrounding areas is superb and far better than FM. you come across certain dead spots so it's not perfect but channel choice is way better also.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.
