I saw a CSG GTI driving around near us last night in East Yorkshire, looked OK but not as nice as I'd have thought going by pics I've seen.  Probably the sort of colour that looks nicer up close, but anyway, it sounded great!

Yeah the pics of the CSG in the CSG thread really were making me   .

However, I resisted changing my colour.  The dark colours are theoretically the best, but I think in practice don't work as well.  White is going to look awesome, especially at night.  I think it is going to make the car stand out in a "Ooh, what was that?" kind of way.  Whereas the dark colours I think will be less noticeable when on the move.

I know it' s a different car but there is someone round my way who has recently collected a new Q5 in pure white and the times I have seen it during the night it has looked stunning

Up close, for most cars you can't beat a gleaming pearl/metallic black or dark grey (when clean!).  But, they lose something when viewed from a distance.  As it approached I could really only tell what it was by the DRLs.  None of the black bodywork and accents stood out.  Had it been in white, it would have been instantly recognisable, especially at night as you say.

I never wanted a DBP Scirocco as it really hides the shape of the car, especially the curves. On a car with a simpler and instantly recognisable silhouette like a Golf it's less of an issue IMO, you just lose the contrast between the black bits and the bodywork colour on a darker one (can make them look quite stealthy though).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

For me the stealthy look is what I was after. Hence why I ordered CSG. I'm just too old to go around in cars that shout 'look at me'

Regardless of colour, I think it will be instantly recongnisable a a GTI. In the same way that the current MK VI is.

I've had white cars for years, and I guess there was a time when they were a bit stand-outy, especially a white Mk5 GTI.  Not any more though, there are loads of white cars out there, and for me they stand out no more than a nice black or red.  Now, when it comes to your oranges and your greens, now they do scream "look at me"

I dunno.  Silver is about the most common colour on the road and my current silver car still stands out.  Stands out is a bit of a blunt phrase.  What I mean is when you see it you think "that is a cool car" and even 4 years after buying it about 50% of the people who see it/ride in it complement me on it.  I'm not saying white will be showy or anything, I'm just saying I think it really makes the car look good (especially at night).  CSG and the other colours also look awesome, better than white sometimes even.  But even when they are at their best I think they are less noticeable.  You walk right past them, but with white your gaze lingers a bit and you think 'that looks cool'.

Its hard to get across what I mean without sounding like I think CSG or another colour is less good, or without sounding like white is like showy bling, cause I don't mean either of those things at all.

I'm as guilty as you for trying to be diplomatic!  Fact is, I think white is by far the best colour for the GTI, as it shows off the curves, the accents, looks great at night, and is really easy to maintain.  You're right though, it is a bit of a blunt phrase, because most cars just by their nature will stand out - like a GTI stands out relative to a normal Golf etc.
