good plan, i've ordered a new tensioner and cambelt while im in there.. i'd always thought changing a cambelt would be a hard job but when you do it it's so easy! the thought of some things is way bigger than the task...

Totally agree mate,  I was really nervous about changing the one on my 16v a couple of years ago but did my research and purchased the proper tensioner tool and it was plain sailing really.  In the past cambelts were the only thing I really got a garage to change as peace of mind but sod paying them to do it ever again.

right made myself a little tensioner tool :)


my only question is how do I know how much to tighten the cambelt? don't wanna over tighten.

Automatic tensioners can only go round as far as the lug allows,  just pull it round until it stops and tighten it up.

+ 1 on the water pump,  they only cost about £20 and you'll have everything off out of way to do it.
