NEWBIE - 0-60 QUESTION :)
« on: 18 June 2013, 21:14 »
HI all!

just joined, looking to buy a mk6 edition 35 golf gti.

I was wondering how easy and safe it is to tune a gti so it is performing 0-60 more like an R or ideally hitting 0-60 in nearer 5 seconds?

I use my car for business so dont really wish to have a really loud exhaust or induction kit but happilly put a new exhaust (not hugely loud) and remap etc....

what would people say with regards to getting faster acceleration and better performance>?

apologies if this has been discussed too many times :)

honestly if its a business car what difference is a second or two going to make unless you plan on ragging it from 0-60 with a stop watch every time you drive it.

0-60 is more to do with driver ability than the cars performance. The .:R will always have the edge due to being four wheel drive, but as said in the previous post, does it really matter?

30-80mph times are far more important in real life. Having said that, the GTD does a pretty good job there.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

To keep it ultra simple mate, just buy the Superchips Blufin device and quickly map it upto 255-265hp.

Then its nearly on par with .:R - but like the other guys say, the R is a different car totally.

35 has a detuned R engine, both mapped they give around the same bhp, 4wd off the line is always going to win though

How much weight does the 4WD system add to standard 35 / GTI

hey all!
thanks for the replies, sorry i prob didnt make my point properly.
it isnt just the 0-60 its the acceleration in general.
personally, i find the fun bit the acceleration through gears etc.....lets face it, when you are doing 70 mph on the motorway in a gti or an R and you have a 2ltd diesel audi 170 behind you the difference is minimal - so my joy is pulling away quick, being able to accelerate out of corners quick etc. I

oops i hadnt finished!

i like the point you made about the detuned R engine in the edition 35 - very interesting. I would just like to be able to tune the engine back up to the R's level or just above so thank you for the link to bluefin.
anyone prefer any other type of remap than bluefin?

i appreciate the comment regarding the lack of 4wd - but maybe the extra weight cancels some of that out?

thanks everyone!

From a standing start 4WD launch will see off the Edition 35 and other cars with more power fwd/rwd.

A stage 1 TSI GTI will probably be faster than a stock R from a roll despite typically mapping to less than 265 ps.

On a roll I think the Edition 35 will be quicker which is where the weight will count more along with additional transmission losses as a result of power to an extra two wheels.

The engine in the Edition 35 with stage 2 can see 300 + bhp but traction will be an issue.

If petrol consumption isn't massively important and you're after big figures I would say the R is the best best. The FWD chassis is a little compromised above GTI stage 1 imo without further mods and this won't be better in the ED35 with more power than a GTI.

Also doesn't it rain a lot in this place?

As you can probably tell I am a fan of the R but didn't want the fuel penalties as a daily driver/business miles.

Both cars are fairly rare, I think I've seen maybe 1 Ed35 and 2-3 Golf R's on the roads since release.

Here's what others have done:
