Whats the hit on fuel consumption. I recently sold my mapped Edition 30 and that just loved petrol, it was very thirsty. (But went like stink!)

I never do long journeys in it, but if I have been on a 20-30 mile bast it still seems to average high 20's, my wife driving it day to day has made no difference to mpg which is circa 33mpg.

It's good on fuel relative to the performance.

I installed stage 1 Bluefin on my GTI DSG tonight, cost me £230 to get the device reprogrammed from my previous car (non-VW).

Only takes 5 mins to install. I couldn't tell much difference to start with and was a bit disappointed, so I reinstalled the old map (takes 5 mins again), and suddenly you can tell the difference in power. As someone mentioned on here, it really flies from 4k, but I was hoping to notice the difference from 2k upwards, as per the graph on their website. So yes, it looks fudged.

Other observations? The engine management light was on the 1st time I fired it up (with either map), so turned it off & on again, and both times the light went off & stayed off.

Up to 3k it doesn't feel much different, but after that it's more rapid and from 4k it really flies. A few times I did notice a slight hesitation / flat spot between 3k-4k, so I'll email Superchips tomorrow and check I have the right map.

In summary, it's certainly quicker but with the flat spots and the power not being where i expected it, the jury is still out. I'll give it a few days as I always find installing a remap to be an anti-climax!

You need to give time for your ECU to adapt, 20 - 100 miles to really benefit. TBH i also was expecting a little more when i first post it on, after 4-5 weeks im used to it.

If i was to take off the map now i think it would feel very flat. Dont go on their graph, im think stage 1 will more likely be 240-250bhp. so an increase of 30-40bhp is never gonna blow you away that much.....

But man, it defo makes a difference....if i hover at 2500rpm and then floor it.....it really does shift. You will be happy within the week

Let me know what they say though.

Quick update. I emailed Superchips with some feedback on the Bluefin map this morning, and mentioned the occasional flat spot. By noon I received a txt to say they've sent me a revised map which should address my feedback. Good service eh?

If I get time later I'll try again, if not I'll install it tomorrow.

Good service would be giving you a map without the flat spot in the first place

They also sent me the wrong map, I do agree that whilst it was a good service they should have got it right first time.

This seems to be a common occurrence      There seems to be a few on that have been sent either the wrong map or have needed a revised map.  Wonder why they can't get it right in the first place?

I wonder how many of these cars have a split DV. This will make a flat spot more noticeable when remapped as its boosting more.

There have been quite a few here that needed revised Bluefin maps.
I reckon the sheer sales volume and broad spectrum of marques that SC cater for gives rise to mistakes. I very much doubt there are many staff left from their early days but SC used to have a horrendous reputation but now seem to be fairly acceptable. I've driven Blufin GTIs and they drive well. Less frenetic than other well known maps and the REVO I had on my last mk6 which got a bit much to live with at times and was huuuuuge fun at other times!!

Begs the chicken and egg question really, which is better? A generic modifier of lots of different marques of cars that is more familiar with what can be achieved with different ignition systems, turbos, ECU types and thus can either be lazy and know what result can be achieved without too much work (development time ££££). Or on the flip side will know from other marques the tricks with the various ECU's and other electronics and hardware so can eke out things without pushing the boat towards the safety margins built in by the manufacturers.
Or do we go for a VAG specialist that will have less available staff but a direct interest in one brand of car which means focus will be good but general experience and overall development budget likely to be a lot less.

There's no perfect answer to the above as it depends on the quality of staff working on the modification and years ago I chose my remaps more by who wrote the map than who sold it. But these days ECU tuning is so widespread I've lost track of who works for who and no doubt there are new whizzkids coming through the ranks anyway.

I think you've got to take a best guess approach as to how good the development of a given map is and how much time is allowed for development rather than just a few runs on a rolling road to see what's the max the car can take and then wind it back a couple of notches.

I wonder how many of these cars have a split DV. This will make a flat spot more noticeable when remapped as its boosting more.
An excellent point, even on quite new cars this is a fair possibility.
