The only problem with white is that 80% of people have chosen it. Going to be very popular.

More like 60% actually:

Although I haven't updated those graphs for a while.  Might do it later.

I just plucked a number out of thin air with that 80% but yes definitely seems to be the most common.

Anyway! I've just been contacted by VW who have told me that the GTI still does come with a spare wheel when spec'd with Dynaudio :) Happy days!

Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

It's a TR one mate, no chance of a DSG review after the crappy phone call i had from them! Got a call from the dealer to arrange the test drive and in the interest of honesty and time saving i was upfront and told him that i'd ordered one from another dealer already but this was the first one i'd seen with DSG so wanted to try it? "Oh, well would you consider cancelling your order and placing one with us?" I said not really as it'd been in for 10 weeks already so unless he could guarantee a sept delivery which i very much doubted then no!

The reply? Sorry no we can't help you then!

The moral of this story is keep yer mouth shut if you've ordered one from somewhere else if you want a test drive!

To be fair Jimble I can understand their response. They're not going to waste their time if there is no chance of them getting a sale. As you say, better to keep quiet

Tbf though he could of arranged a test drive and not bothered with the hard sell afterwards which would of only been about 10 minutes, less if he'd just given me the keys and i'd gone on my own! I'm not sure if the dealerships have to buy their demo's or if they're just supplied by VW? In which case it'd hardly be "their" car so whats the problem with obliging a VW customer??

I've visited a few dealerships now and the general feeling i get is that they really aren't interested in promoting the VW brand only looking after themselves, with a few exceptions of course.

Just ring them up in a few days and arrange a test drive. Tell them you are very interested and ask if they accept credit card for a deposit :P ?

Inchcape Telford aren't the greatest dealer, so that doesn't surprise me.  I turned up mid-afternoon on a Saturday, wanting a test drive in a Scirocco and a Golf.  They seemed more interested in going home for the day and very reluctantly let me have a five minute test drive in a Scirocco.

The next day I went to Stafford VW, had two test drives and ordered a GTD.  I would have quite happily ordered from Telford, but their poor attitude settled their fate.

A fifteen minute test drive in their new GTI wouldn't have hurt.  Sure, Jimble wouldn't have ordered from them, but treat him right, and he might take it there for servicing and the like, and keep them in mind for when/if he gets his Mark 8.

My experience of dealerships is that the majority of salesmen are not real car enthusiasts so they don't share the same passion in cars that we do. For quite a few of them it's not the profession that they have chosen, however due to the current climate they are happy just to be in a job, and who could argue with that.

As we know these guys will probably be on a minimum salary and are under pressure to hit sales targets each quarter, not only to secure their job but also to boost their earnings through commission. When someone asks for a test drive but states that they have no intention of buying then they aren't going to waste their time. While they are out on a test drive with you they could be losing a sale back in the showroom.

In terms of new business through servicing and so forth, it might benefit the dealership but it ain't going to benefit your sales guy.

We would all like our salesmen to be as enthusiastic as we are but it's just not going to happen. Indeed, when I said to my salesman that I would really like to do his job because I love cars, I got a very strange look like I was mad
