Dropped my galaxy s3, now screen is cracked!
« on: 17 June 2013, 19:34 »
Dropped my S3 earlier on and unfortunately the screen cracked (I did have a case, the wallet type one, but it still cracked) so my question is do I buy the screen replacement kit off ebay and do it myself (rather not, seems fiddly and there's the chance of cocking it up), or do I claim on my phone insurance through lloyds tsb? Had a read of my cover and it does cover accidental damage, however I'd quite like my phone back repaired rather than a reconditioned handset.

What's your opinion?

If it's insured then use and you won't void your manufacturers warranty by opening up the handset. Plus the obvious fact that if someone else f**k it up you'll just get another working handset instead of a expensive paperweight.
Phone repairs are fiddly and time consuming and certainly not for the faint hearted.
I've fully rebuilt an iPhone 4S that went through a washing machine cycle and only yesterday finished a HTC sensation which was a right b!tch as i ended up replacing 4 components just because the digitizer was cracked and everything was so overly glued together!

It's just that I've been reading reviews regarding the Lloyds TSB insurance and most of them are awful, although a few good ones too.

Buy an electronic repair kit from Ifixit or something similair then a new screen and follow this...

Then gather videos for Iphone and HTC too (however htc one was said to be the least repairable phone Ifixit have ever done a teardown of).

I've read about doing it myself but it's a big risk! It's just the glass that needs replacing, the digitiser is fine. Looked on ebay and there are companies repairing them for £50, so I'll just send it off to them.
