The priority treatment by VW has ended at the docks. My dealer has informed me by email yesterday afternoon that the car has cleared customs (so it is available for them to pick up from the docks any time, as per "priority") but i'm having to wait until Weds for it.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

There are one of 2 reasons I can think of:-

1.   He hasn’t realised that the onus for delivery is now on the dealership to come and collect due to VWs “priority delivery” actions, and he’s estimated it arriving Tues or Weds because maybe that’s when VW UK are bringing over other cars to the dealership that arrived on the same ship.

2.   He can’t be arsed to do it any quicker, maybe he’s requested VW UK to reinstate normal delivery service so that he doesn’t have to come and get it from dockside. He works the weekends and usually takes Monday off, so Monday is out of the question anyway if he wants to hand it over.

I seriously hope it is 1 rather than 2. I’ve bought from him before and introduced my dad to the dealership group, so he’s got 2 sales out of me this time and not 1. Was hoping that and the wait would mean some preferential treatment.

His main point of email was to tell me my reg number and get me to sign a form he sent electronically that confirms my details for arranging the taxing of the car and 7 day insurance cover.
I’ve politely reminded him that they are supposed to be collecting the car from dockside rather than VW delivering the car to them. Maybe this will prompt him to get it sorted for me quicker than Weds if it’s reason 1 rather than 2.

If he did for me what he did for my dad (picked up from dockside as soon as it had cleared customs then PDI’d same day for same day pick up), I’d be having that car this evening.

Maybe he’s taken the hump as my car is now going to be privately financed (he only found this out the other day and he didn’t seem overly impressed). “it’s only another 5 days” I’m sure someone here would say, but it’s 5 unnecessary days after an epic wait for a car that shouldv’e been at the front of my dealers allocation queue.
I thought I was finally done with moaning    once I heard VW UK were fast-tracking my shipping, but looks like it is getting tripped up at the last hurdle.

Basically he can't be ar7ed to go and get it.  Bottom line is that if its cleared customs why isn't he driving up there now?  I think you've hit the nail on the head though - if you're not financing through him he basically can't be f7cked - another example of cracking customer service

I'd phone him up now MH - tell him the car is ready to be picked up so can you go and get it today please, I've waited too long for this car so go and get it and get it ready for me to collect on Sunday.  These jokers get on my nerves!

He responded to my reminder that the car is to be collected from the docks by them by saying he would get admin to check out the delivery status and get back to me. Hopefully this means that it was situation 1 (above) and he will pull his finger out to go and get it for PDI and handover ASAP. I took both keys and my V5 to work on the off-chance (fat chance) that it might be ready to pick up on the way from work.

I wonder how much the finance option is personally worth to the salesman or the dealership as a whole –10% of the interest paid (total interest is about £3k) on the average £26k car over a 3 year term via VW solutions.

I don't actually know what they get, but I'm sure they do get something!  That's good news - at the end of the day the car is ready to be picked up, so he should go get it!  3 hours to PDI, you should be able to collect at 5pm - or that's what should happen....

Just make sure it doesn't get to Wednesday only for them to contact you all confused saying all the other cars have arrived but your is for some unknown reason still at the docks!

Its simply phenomenal the amount of times I've been in contact with a company, any company, who've "assured" me all is going to plan for it to later not go to plan.  I'm convinced whoever answers the phone just gives the impression they are all over something and then hangs up and couldn't care less any more.

I'd hound them until they get on with it if I were you.  They might get the hump but f**k it, its about time they had to put up with some sh!t given that its been the customers putting up with everything up to now.

Just been on the phone to my dealer.

Basically they can’t be arsed to make the arrangements to collect and make it happen. They’ve defaulted back to VW delivering the car to the dealership rather than them going and getting it from the dock, and so the car is probably going to be in branch Tuesday, possibly Wednesday.
I have been advised to arrange for my VW Insuurance 7 day policy to start next Weds, so they have no intention of taxing and handing over before Weds.

All VW UK’s “priority delivery” arrangements have gone to waste. When the rep from Simon Thomson’s office rang me on Weds to let me know it had shipped, he also said that the dealership were under instruction to go and collect the car to speed the process up their end as soon as they knew it had arrived at dockside and had cleared customs. So the one good deed VW UK seem to have performed were all in vain.

I got some story how the workshop are backed up and too busy to fit a last minute PDI in, the collection of the car from dockside is a paperwork nightmare (I’m sure it is less of a pain when VW made the arrangements for them this time, rather than when they had to go against the system to get my dad’s).

He seemed a bit flustered when I challenged that, saying that VW seemed to have already made all the arrangements to allow it to happen so it should be easier to do this time around.

He finally came back with the story that even though I settled my finance on Weds, and even though I had verbal confirmation over the phone from VW finance that the money had been applied to my agreement so that the balance is effectively nil now, so I could cancel the imminent direct debit, it would still not officially clear a HPI check for 4 working days. So he won’t take the word of a VW finance rep  that the finance is clear if he were to get the handover done earlier than Weds? Absolute bullsh!t.
My next car (if it is a VW) will probably not be coming from that dealership.

So Wednesday it is…..and my colleague just reminded me that we start our NEBOSH course at Northumbria Uni Wednesday 5:30pm. If he can’t do Weds lunchtime it’ll be a Thursday pick-up. sh!te!

Wow, the VW incompetence continues.  Hit 'em where it hurts MH, when you get the VW call after taking delivery asking you to do the survey on which their bonus is based, make sure you be honest and therefore give them a pants review.  That's what I would do, sorry, I'm happy to give credit where its deserved but they are taking the p1ss and basically being lazy a f7ck.

Shocking (but not surprising).

Bill – that had crossed my mind! I do have visions of that transporter being loaded on Tuesday with every car but mine as it is still tagged as “dealership collection arranged”. If that happens, they can wait until I get back from my hols for my pick-up (and their money) – I will go without for another 10 days before my hols to delay them their money a month.

I really do think the finance issue has given him the hump. He was under the impression right the way to pick-up that my dad would be taking VW finance out (after providing a quote) and was surprised when he wasn’t – to the point that he charged my dad the difference between VW finance price service pack (£249 at the time) and non-financed service pack (£359) for his “free servicing negotiated as part of the deal. If I had been with my dad it the time I’d have put a stop to that. The “freebie” was in no way conditional on taking out the finance when the deal was struck, nor was a commitment made to take out the finance – but he shelled out the £110 anyway. Then he found out last week that my dad was loaning me the money I need and so I wasn’t taking out finance either.

In the past me and mcmaddy have discussed our situations and I had been quite defensive of the dealership, heaping any blame on VW UK. I had a good relationship with my dealer up until the point at which he must had been aware I had been chasing VW UK up, he seems to be royally screwing me over now.
