Well The ship mine was on arrived in Tyne an hour early – just saw it chugging up the Tyne as I was driving along the top of the Fish Quay to get home. It has either unloaded or is in the process of being unloaded now (and the tracker has an error when I put my number in – must be between “in transit – 10 days” and “arrived in UK”.
Hopefully my dealer will be able to get a hold of it this afternoon or tomorrow due to how my dad’s delivery panned out (ship arrived 8pm on a Friday night, nothing much seemed to happen over the weekend and the dealer was able to get it Monday afternoon for a late afternoon PDI and a 6pm pick-up for my dad). Looks like it is going to hoy it down Fri/Sat/Sun up here, so the G-Techniq treatment might have to wait.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Dude I think you know everything there is to know about these ships!

I had thought different companies would charter separate ships but if they are all on the same one I can only assume BMW are much more "hand to mouth" than VW, and VW have a large buffer of cars awaiting transport at any one time because BMW seem to think they can hand over keys 2 weeks after the car leaves the factory but lots of GTIs seem to have spent near to that just waiting for a ship at Emden...

Ok there is another explanation... BMW are being hopelessly optimistic!  Guys getting their cars now seem to be achieving this 2 week delivery though.  Like I say I had assumed BMW had a different ship and it was under less load than VW.  After all VW are one of the top three manufacturers in terms of volume but BMW are a relative minnow.

There’s quite a mix on these ships. The Emden>Tyne>Amsterdam>Emden route ships drop off German cars of all marques for the north of England and Scotland, pick up Nissans that were built at Sunderland, and drop them off in Amsterdam/Ijmuiden for north mainland Europe distribution, then come back around to Emden and start again. I'm sure a similar situation occurs whereby Swindon Hondas get picked up from Sheerness or Grimsby etc after dropping off German cars.

My tracking number is no longer recognised on the system (tried for 4 hours).

I think this is due to the “priority shipping”. VW UK rep said they had to unallocate it for VW road transport to the dealer once it arrived in the UK, so that my dealer could come and collect it when it had cleared customs/dock security. Maybe it drops off the tracking system because VW UK are no longer responsible for transporting it?

Heard nowt from my dealer today.Maybe he's just giving it a day to clear all port authority checks - hopefully i'll have some news off him tomorrow, like "it's here, been PDI'd, come and get it". My order number has definitely gone off the grid now for updates.
