Just for info, mine went to 'In Transit' on Sunday morning.  According to VW EO it arrived at Emden today (so, that's 2 days from factory to port).  He's estimating end of September delivery.  He's asked for priority shipping - but that smells like more VW bullsh!t to be honest as I've never heard of that - 4 weeks from port to dealer though, really?  Oh well, nowt I can do about it.

That also would make it 26 weeks from order to delivery

Aha, since you decided to stay true while I went to the dark side, and since I also have estimated delivery of end of September, we now can have a race to see which comes sooner!

My money is on yours arriving one week in advance of mine.

Well yours is already in transit... mine should be soon I should think.

I wonder what port BMW use.  I imagine they don't mix brands on these ships, but would be amusing if both our cars were on the same ship after all!

Ha!  The irony if that happened!  To be honest if they do 'boat share' that would make sense given you're only 20-30 miles from me!

They do mix brands: VAG, BMW, Porsche, Merc cars made in Germany/Poland/Czech republic/Austria are all possible (and probable) to be in a ship from Emden to the UK There is no VW only ship and a BMW ship. It’s the most direct sailing port from Germany  to the UK – any further east of Emden within Germany and the ship would have to negotiate all the way around the Danish peninsula – an extra 13 hours on a ship for the sake of saving no more than 40 miles by road or rail. I suppose that may make it more difficult to give any given car (mine!) priority shipping on a ship that is full and they may only have half the occupancy or less on any given ship.
Could see a few M135is get here alongside the GTIs of the unwavering, although I suspect the BMW dealers would generally get theirs from the dockside before the VW dealers.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Dude I think you know everything there is to know about these ships!

I had thought different companies would charter separate ships but if they are all on the same one I can only assume BMW are much more "hand to mouth" than VW, and VW have a large buffer of cars awaiting transport at any one time because BMW seem to think they can hand over keys 2 weeks after the car leaves the factory but lots of GTIs seem to have spent near to that just waiting for a ship at Emden...

Ok there is another explanation... BMW are being hopelessly optimistic!  Guys getting their cars now seem to be achieving this 2 week delivery though.  Like I say I had assumed BMW had a different ship and it was under less load than VW.  After all VW are one of the top three manufacturers in terms of volume but BMW are a relative minnow.
