You probably won't know which ship your car will get on. From waiting at Emden, 3 ships came to Emden and went to Port of Tyne in about a week before my dad's GTD got on the fourth ship.

I definitely don't know, and aren't too fussed now to be honest! It is what it is and will be here when it's here.  I guess I might get a status update on Monday, we shall see.

Hoping to find that my BW33 GTD will actually get started next week (BW34 - WTF!). I am totally non-plussed by the prospect of receiving my car that was suppsed to be built BW25/26 originally. Just been looking at A3 3 door S-line with the 184PS engine and a few extras like the comfort pack and a few other bits. It's not looking so special on the outside compared to GTD, but the S-line interior is amazing especially the seats. If my car isn't built next week i'm tempted to tell them to shove it, if I can get DTD £2500 discount and £14.5k - £15k for my Scirocco.

I have never been less excited for a car change - VW have completely ruined it for me with disappointment after disappointment.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Now I know it's on the way I'm as excited as I ever was!  It's awful when you are in the position of not knowing though.  Only you can make the decision to sack it off and buy something else, but would the Audi be a factory build?  If so, surely you'd be waiting longer for that than you would your GTD?  I guess you just need to see what happens next week with you car, hope it finally goes into build.

I just feel that VW haven't done very much for us early adopters, especially one who has already had 6 new VW purchases under his belt. I ordered before the great broker prices were available too, so I do feel like i've overpaid and it's only the fact that i've waited so long and my fixed p/x price has opened up some big equity in my Scirocco that I feel I still have a "reasonable" deal. Might write a letter of disappointment to VW UK to see if I can shame them into some goodwill if it isn't built next week.

Clearly VW have had a lot of logistical issues to deal with, and have been piss-poor at keeping us all informed about what's going on.  I'm sure that with enough persistence and understanding from yourself, goodwill of some description would head your way.  It's all too easy to get wound up and upset about it, but the fact of the matter is this - if the only major worry in my life right now is the unorganised delivery of a £30k car, I really don't have things too bad in the grand scheme of things.

It's not a life or death situation, but they seem to think that they can treat their customers with contempt or indifference that are spending £26K+ with them. If I were to vote with my feet, the Audi A3 (3 door, as the 5 door is an estate car) S-line with approximate GTD spec is the only thing that tempts me right now.

I'm going to have a "meh" feeling when I finally get that car, you shouldn't ever feel that way on a £26k spend.

If the 184PS engine is freely available then a fresh A3 S-line order shouldn't take long, there should be no allocation considerations as it is "just" a normal A3 order.

you'll face the same delays on an Audi or a seat I think. I enquired about a 5 door Leon with 184ps engine and was told minimum 4 months maybe even 5.

Hard to know what to do mate.  For all the negativity VW have caused, the GTI is still the car I wanted all along so I wouldn't have had any alternatives other than to just cancel and stick with what I've got now.  If you'd be happy with the A3, it cant hurt to investigate, but the chances are if you were due for build this week, you really should see movement soon.

Your right though, when spending so much we shouldn't get treat like we have, and I for one will be writing a letter or two.

I guess it depends how your expectations are set. When I ordered mine the dealer said it showed a July 1st delivery, but she said to me quite clearly "From experience with a new GTI model, I strongly doubt that will be the case, it never is". I've known her for years as she used to sell BMW (have waited 11 months for a new M3 before).

The only delay I've really had was being pushed from BW28 to BW32 because of the factory shutdown being brought forward a week. When the car didn't show as being in build at the end of BW32 she called VW daily and emailed me an update. Today said the other 4 cars in their original allocation of 5 have been pushed back to 'unconfirmed' BW 41. The worst part is I really want her to work for me now, I'm wondering what a VW salespersons basic might be?

It's mix of how expectations are set and how they are managed going forwards.  I was told I'd have it early August, which I guess is only 4 weeks off the original 16 week estimate.  At one point though I was told build week 38, which came forward to 32 and stayed there.  I haven't been kept informed particularly well, but others have hade it a lot worse.

Still, it really does seem like with the odd week 51 exceptions, thing are moving along now.
