Bill_the_traitor_Bear!... cancelled your Golf and ordered a poor man's BMW tut tut!...

Understand your frustration, but no long term Golf GTI lover would ever swap!

Ah well I'm no long term GTI lover.  Admirer yes, but I never owned one.

A friend of mine calls BMW the "stupid rich man's car" as he says you can get the same thing elsewhere for a lot less money.  So is it a poor man's or a rich man's?

From someone that has owned two new M3's, I can confirm that the one series is defo a poor mans BMW. Just like the M3, the Golf GTI is an icon... No chance I'd change, no matter what the delay. You must have made about 10,000 posts on this forum? but you've changed to a BMW 1 Series?... and you're still posting ?

Jeesus - mine is in transit! I was ready to give it to VW UK with both barrels today, and it is finally in transit. Might ring them up anyway and plead ignorance on the tracker just so they can hopefully tell me expected shipping etc.

Matchboy - check your tracker!

No need to be having a go at Bear. He's been very enthusiastic about the GTI from the start of the waiting process and has never dissed anything but the ridiculous wait VW had put him through. At the end of the day, extreme measures have made him jump ship to BMW.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Yeah, I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but Bear has been a big part of these forums since joining, and I for one hope he sticks around.  In relation to BMW, at that money I'd be saving up for a decent 3 series or even a used M3, but if he's happy with the M135i, be happy for him.

Great news monkeyhanger, and fingers crossed matchboy!

Matchboy - check your tracker!

Excellent news MH, very pleased for you!  You have been waiting one of the longest!

Mixed news for me - the tracker still says 'being built' however VW have told me this morning that the car went into build today.  Whether I believe that or not is another matter, but he seemed quite definitive about it.  We shall see....

As for GtG....

Maybe yours was put off past mine due to shipping concerns – if they’re working to a “just in time” method right now. There is a ship in today that could potentially take mine to port of Tyne if it hasn’t hung around getting on the train to Emden. Maybe they held off on building yours because there isn’t a ship to Sheerness (likely port of delivery for yours, given your location) or Grimsby (less likely) for a good few days. Either way it is confirmed that they hung around for 2 weeks past build week to start yours, so this “the build week means that week or the week after” line from VW UK is horse sh!te, as we all knew it to be.

Or maybe I still have an epic wait for shipping. There is nothing after “city of Rome” going to port of Tyne for the foreseeable (shipping website only allows me to see to 2nd September)

Scratch what I said above - my dealer has now just told me I'm BW39.  Sick of this.

Hope you get on that ship MH, at least some of us are having better news!
