drilling air filter box
« on: 01 June 2013, 16:41 »
A guy who just done some work on my car was saying that if I drilled about 20 hopes in the bottom of my air filter box I should here a better noise like what my dv should be making.
Is this ok to do and any advice would be appreciated ?

Hmmm, from what I've seen on the net it just seems to make the whole car sound meatier. Rather than the tssshh I'm looking for from gear changes like a dump valve.  :undecided:

it will make the dv louder too mate. not as loud as a cone filter would make it but almost.
the airbox kind of acts like an exhaust resonator, remove it and you`ll get all the noises from the maf back.
make holes in it and you hear the noises but youre also kind of protected from all the engine heat too.

Should of brought a scooby :lipsrsealed:

It will make dv loader too as jamie said. You need a remap and then with drilled airbox will give slight tshht sound from the valve. Or just stik a  cone filter on..get good grunt too

Navmk4gti, you mentioned the drilling of the airbox will make the dv louder. The problem is..... There's no noise atall at the moment

you`ve probably got something wrong there dean, it should make a slight "tss" at least..
i think your boost pressure needs investigating.

Yes I've got a pipercross panel filter. And no I've not smoothed the box as of yet. My dv is fine and the same thing happens with my mate's dv

If you expectin a load tshht ur not going to get it. Its gonna be a slight sound. Itss not going to sound like a dump valve on jap turbos. If you want that noise get a forge split r but they dont work as well as 007 or 008
