I just had an excellent conversation with a nice lady from VWUK. I think a summary might be very interesting for you guys:
1) Bear contacts VW on Twitter on 24th May asking why his estimated BW is 37.
2) Twitter replies! They ask for order number etc etc... and email addresses are exchanged. They say they will get back to Bear on 29th May.
3) Bear emails VW direct using above email on 29th May with a list of general questions, summaries below:
- If you are 2nd or 3rd to order at a dealer can you be delayed relative to someone who orders later but 1st at their dealer?
- If you make a change to your order can you be bumped back in the queue? (e.g. like MH, MH's dad and mcmaddy.)
- Main question. Does the wide range of estimated BWs mean that some are just very inaccurate, conservative estimates that will probably come forward?
- Why do orders in Scotland or North England seem to have much shorter BWs than South England?
4) VWUK called. Below is the gist of what was a long conversation:
- They are checking on my order, will get back to me.
- They will have a meeting within the week where they can enquire about specific hold ups, will call me back in a week to discuss more in depth and will keep in touch regularly.
- DSG is a known option that causes a delay, might be what is going. I commented that some DSG orders have early BWs though.
- They will keep in regular contact with me.
- Only got my list of questions just now so will need to read through before responding.
- Difference between BWs in north and south must be coincidence, shouldn't be a difference.
- They do think the estimated BWs should come forward but were reluctant to really comment. I'm trying to get a frank no BS answer not trick them but its hard for obvious reasons they see commenting as "making a commitment"...(my words here, reading between the "lines")
Now the interesting bit:
I mentioned that as a member of a forum, where there are over 50 GTI/GTD orders placed and regularly discussed, I am aware that others are similarly confused by their BWs that are often months away, while similar orders are on wk26 or 25. I said this is causing no small amount of frustration, and while we don't expect to all have a confirmed BW right now we would like to understand why the wide range of weeks and are they likely to come forward.
She said she could only check on my order. I said would having more order numbers to check on help? She said if she had more she could check on them, but obviously would only discuss them with the specific customer. She is going to send me her contact details via text message.
If people think this is a good idea then when she texts me her contact details (expected to have them by now

) I'll call and ask her if I can pass them on to anyone on here who would like their number checking on as well. Hopefully she can find out direct from Germany why the big difference in estimated BWs and are the estimates basically all crap?
There was a lot more we talked about but it was rambling and I forget most of it. If you've any questions though it might jog my memory so feel free to quiz me!
