You are all on here buying VW and not Skoda...

What are you inferring about Skoda?

Well, they're not as good as a VW in the same way a VW is not as good as an Audi

you do realise VW own Audi?

Of course.  Audi is a step up from VW.  Audi is another class.

Another example, SEAT is not as as good as a VW.  Same group but I'm sure you know what I mean

I really don't get this man.  You own a GTI, a car which costs more than the average car and a car which IMO is much better value for money than most of the audi's (based on overall performance / comfort / economy / etc.). And you are comparing two brands which have both high(er) quality and low(er) quality cars if  you compare their entire fleets.  You can't really compare the A3 to, say, the GTI and you can't compare the Polo to the S3.  I do agree that if you had to place all audi's and vw's on a scale and have them assessed, more audi's may appear higher than vw's as they are more of a premium brand.  But then again, you could say that the GTI, or the R, or the Tuareg, are streets ahead of most of the audi fleet.  I think you are over generalizing. As i said in my earlier post, you cannot compare a car that costs 10K with a car that costs 80K, of course the second will be better all round.

How is an Audi A3 S-Line with the same 210ps engine not the same as the GTi, in the same way the 170ps diesel version is the same as the GTD.

fair enough mate, I'm not here to argue.  everyone is entitled to their opinion.  for me even though A3 S-line has same engine, it simply does not compare to the legend that is the GTI.  If i thought otherwise I'd gone for the audi. I am a bit puzzled though that people who own a GTI hail certain audi models as being superior quality...

Whatever we think about cars within the VAG stable, one thing we do know is that it could be suggested that Autobulbs thinks that Skoda's are crap.

Hmmm, not the best PR statement a company trying to push a new product could make.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Audi is the premium marque within the VAG stable and there is no denying they make some of the best interiors in the automotive world, IMO the A3 interior is better than the Golf.

Just because I have chosen to buy a Golf it doesn't mean I can't appreciate there are better cars out there, the GTi is a nice mix of affordability and driving fun but there are many cars I would much prefer

Please do not miss quote us, your "suggestion" is false. I compared Skoda in that it is a badge you pay less for than VW not a quality differecnce. You can buy a kit car and a Ferrari and the ebay special kit car is likely to be much lower quality, some will not be some will be diamonds in the rough. However with Ferrari you know every time you will get the best quality no matter what. As with Osram you will be the best every time and it will be supported by warranty and the company.

Being on my 2nd mk6 Golf, I can honestly say that IMO, Audi have by far superior build quality.  My previous golf was continually in the dealership and on the back of a pick-up truck with major faults, one of which was very dangerous and this is not even considering the countless rattles with only 10k miles.

My current GTi has only just hit 3000 miles and squeaks have started on this one.....  Not good for a car with the list price of over £27k.  I won't be getting another that's for sure

well mate, sh*t can happen.  my mate has bought a brand new TT 3 years ago and has spent over 4K on fixing things that really should not need fixing for a 40K car.  I spent 33K on my gti and had to change mechatronic last year. My wife's Polo though, poor as it might be on the interior, bought new for something like 8K, has not caused the slightest problem in over 6 years of daily driving.

I test-drove the new A3 the other day as the missus is on the lookout for a new car, i wonder where on earth do you see that car being superior to the GTI.  Sure, if you pay and have every  single extra there is on the catalogue, maybe it becomes competitive quality-wise, but you should also weigh your options and depends on what would you like a car to do.  If you can find and show me another car that offers the combination of quality / power / comfort that the GTI does within the same price range, hats off to you.
