if my car did 60mpg i would be very, and i mean VERY happy!
what engine do you have, get it scanned for faults would be your first step. that`ll lead to clues to if you have a problem!

I hope that is a typo because any mk4 engine would be doing well to get 60mpg!

hi thanks for the replies sorry i have just read my post as it was misleading it does 60 miles to £20.00 which is just under half a tank!!!! so not very good at all

its a 2.0l gti 8v on a 2000 plate, its been on the diagnostic iv had the lambda sensor replaced so my fuel is now slightly better

iv only had the car for 2 weeks and looking through the paperwork i found an invoice for a super chip so now im not sure what bhp it is???? which im sure is not helping with my fuel

thanks all

super chip on a 2.0l 8v seems a bit pointless, i would see if you could obtain a second hand ecu from somewhere and see if someone is kind enough on here to code it in for you.
I reckon the "superchip" may be causing it to use excessive fuel for not alot of gain.
i could be totally wrong in saying that mind you. also i think the 2L8v engines are not the most economical of the bunch.

I would get it scanned for fault codes as a 1st step, then look to replace the temp sender also as Jamie said it may be worth going back to a standard ecu.
