I think I would opt for the Skoda vRS over the Seat equivalent too. I sat in a new Seat Leon recently and I thought the interior was shocking. I don't like the exterior looks much either, whereas the Skoda is a bit more VW looking.

That said, I wouldn't rush to buy either of them. And yes, I know they're from the same stable!

My gut instinct is that I am going to love this GTD the more I drive it and feel very good about my choice as I look across at other drivers :)

What, even drivers of a Mk7 GTI?! ;)

Well 'most' then ;)

If for me personally the finances were not so apart I would have without question gone for the GTI and would by that, know the person opposite looking back at me from his GTI will have his own feeling of superiority over me ;)

No matter the rationale I would always do the same to a LEON and feeling is a lot of what we pay for is it not?

They are coming on though but as Audi and VW are VAG more marque names would SEAT and Skoda ever be allowed to pass? - If my limits were different though I would be very happy with that Octavia vRS though.

Hate the Seat badge! and even had some badge snobbery coming from Audi to VW to overcome and all quite perverse when all in VAG stable, but it's there so admitting it -

That said quite like the Leon and the new Cupra coming looks pretty decent though if it was head to head with FR I would likely go for the Octavia vRS as do like it

Many things make up my car choice and the car I choose does not have to be the fastest or cheaper or more expensive even to fit what I am looking for and things like badge do apply in that thinking and yes over rationale of maybe a car being near the same.

I would not say I would never have a Seat or Skoda as they come a long way and they might even go beyond, but as we stand today it was only even Audi or VW nothing else considered and could have selected from pretty much most manufacturers - My gut instinct is that I am going to love this GTD the more I drive it and feel very good about my choice as I look across at other drivers :)

I'm the same coming from the Audi stable. When I've told some people that I'm getting a new golf they have commented that it seems a backwards step even though its a GTI. However, these are people that don't know a great deal about cars.

In terms of Seat and Skoda I just wouldn't ever purchase one. There is a hierarchy in the VW group and both Seat and Skoda are below VW and they will no doubt remain there. So regardless of how quick the Cupra or the VRS may be they will never have the quality of the golf.

I run a Skoda CR TDI VRS DSG which is now just over 3 years old. I have been offered £11000 part exchange and am assured I can get in excess of £12000 privately. As I purchased it through drivethedeal for £18,000 I am more than pleased with a) its performance b) its economy at 50 mph c) the enormous boot which carries half the household on extended continental holidays and d) the residual value which betters GTI's of similar age. Why have I ordered a new GTI you may ask ( as does my wife who is not impressed with the Golf's boot space) ? Baldly put ,because I am brassed off with the hassle of finding decent sized parking in the larger cities , particularly as its replacement will be even bigger. What I have experienced after 3 years is a great motorng experience comparable with the Mk 5 I previously owned

Haha!  Your GTD is a damn fine car, and you are absolutely right that feeling has a lot to do with the purchase decision.

No, SEAT and Skoda will not be allowed to pass, but I agree on the Octavia vRS.  My cousin had an older vRS and it was a really good car for the money.  Compared to my golf though, it appeared the same when you first sat in it, but then you noticed all the cheaper materials and short-cuts.  They may have got better now, but so have VW.  Yes it's a badge-thing, but it's warranted with the superior build quality, and that's something I value!

I'm going to look at the Leon tomorrow with the view of cancelling my order for the gtd. Nearly 4k cheaper for almost the same equipment including some options. sick fed up of the waiting and the way VW UK have treat people.

Haha what?? So what you're going to do is cancel your order with a subsidiary of VAG and buy a car from another subsidiary of VAG?

In what way does the company lose out in this?

At what point did I say I was cancelling in protest?? I still need a car and technically if I pay less for a Leon then vag are getting less money!!

As for this badge snobbery conversation I can't believe what I'm reading!! Exactly the same bits go into a seat, Skoda, VW and believe it or not an Audi! If you think your getting a better quality of part just because you've got an Audi over a VW or seat or Skoda then you need to have a long chat with yourself. if you look on etka the same parts numbers are across the whole brand its just Audi charge you more because you've got an Audi and they play you into thinking your getting something special from them. I don't see Audi or VW anywhere near the top of the customer satisfaction tables but Skoda consistently out do all the other vag brands. Considering they are supposed to be the 'poor relation'in the group I think Audi and VW swell as seat could learn a thing or two but then again with all this snobbery they probably think they are the best anyway!!

Well you said you were going to look with a view of cancelling your order. I'm just surmising from the thread it was in protest, it would make sense.

As mcmaddy has said they all use the same parts and now they are all using MQB platform so engines and running gear all the same just different body panels used depending on model
