leak in boot odd though....
« on: 21 May 2013, 21:52 »
Spotted other day pool of water in my boot. It in far left corner below rear light in line where the webbingvis and drain bung id. Whats odd is all around light boot seal etc bone dry. It leaks when car parked up too sobit not a movement leak. Is this a common place on the mk4? Also checked washer pipe andvthat all intact

Where did you check the washer pipe? Where it comes through from the car and behind the cover on the boot itself?

Does it get worse if it rains?

I had a leak in the boot once, it was coming through the aerial base but somehow no marks on headlong, c pillars etc..... Not quite the same location as yours as mike was more drivers side, worth a look though if the seal has perished.

There's a vent filter thing under the bumper that also breaks down but if its like that from being stationary I don't think that'd be applicable in your case.

Behind the cover we checked. The odd thing is the insulation sll around the light and washer pipe etc dry. It litterally wet at the bottom where the air vent and drain bung is. The airvent it self drybtoo. No water mark any where

take the boot liner our, get a mate to climb in the boot, shut door, put hose on the car and see if he can see water coming in...

id guess that its the big drain... may look dry but i belive its rubber so water will just roll off it leaving it looking dry.

Seal around the air vent will have perished most likely.
