Track days. Ahhh i forgot how fun they were.
« on: 18 May 2013, 16:14 »
just did a track day at croft (10 miles from my house so nice and local  )

forgot how much fun they are.

few laps driven around in a mazda mps for the instructor to give you advise and show the track, but as ive done a few track days there and he had seen me a few times he just drove around and we had a bit of crack on so as not to repeat himself.

was raining hard this morning so thought it will have been canceled, but the rain stoped and the track dried pretty quickly.

then few laps of me driving the BTCC circuit in a Porsche caymen. nice cars. pretty fun.

then few laps in a formula ford. very fun cars, think go cart with a big engine :D

now I just cant wait to go to the nurburgring in September  although I don't think the golf will handle quite aswell as the formula ford :( :D

then got a few laps being driven around by a pro in a caterham 7  (he has a good job :D )

all I can say is, in a year or so's time im defanitly buying a caterham as a weekend summer toy.  either that or some track specific car

pics to follow later when I can be bothered to transfer them :)

I suggest everyone does a track day at some point in there life!

Going uninsured on TF are we?  Might want to re-think or hire something out there instead.

Your not allowed to race on track days are you?
Only can overtake on a straight exiting a corner, no overtaking on brakes or round the outside etc?
or can you get away with it?

Ive done r35 track day and drifting day. I found the skyline boring after several laps because of the above. Dont get me wrong the car was awesome just got board braking early and going slow round bends because of slower cars/drivers on track.

nope dh we will be fully insured, haven't checked if my insurance covers me abroad yet (think it does but need to check this years insurance docs) but will be buying insurance for that if it does not and already looked into a few different track insurers that cover the nurburgring.

just because im young doesent mean im a tw*t who doesent insure things, I had plenty of mods waiting for my golf when I was 17 but didn't fit them until id saved enough money for the insurance premiums and now im 21 I still stick to the same rules, cant insure it, don't bother doing it...

whats the saying.. don't tar everyone with the same brush

and yes tweed they did say no over taking apart from on the streights, which tbh was not a problem at all, there was only around 8 cars on the track in total all day so I only got the chance to over take twice so other people on the track didn't really slow me down at all. one time I was on a corner when I over took in the Porsche and the instructor didn't bat an eye lid. I think there not really botherd aslong as you give lots of space like I did...

anyway, anyone elses flikr account not working... cant get on to upload pics.  will cop a few over in a min that were posted on facebook

The policies you're looking at only offer first party insurance.  That doesn't cover the German biker who just went down on your coolant and is now dead/disabled.

You need a 'normal' insurance policy that covers you for road use, if you're going out to do Touristenfahren.  It's a normal road in German law.  Almost all UK insurers have now excluded TF in their policies through wording.

We are all tarred with the same brush by our insurers now.

Legally they have to cover TF as it's under German road law.

Contractually they have written it out, so they will come after you to reclaim their losses on a third party claim.

You will get reamed if this happens.

Hire a Swift or something similar, or do a track day in your Golf.

It's the only way of ensuring you're not putting yourself at a massive risk.

Or take your car round, but appreciate it's a massive risk and you are not effectively covered by your insurance.

If you're still planning on that, read this:

http://www.leeds-solicitors.com/nurburgring_insurance.html

And take Mr Thompson's phone number with you, in case the worst happens.

If you haven't been before - don't do it on TF in your own car.

You will get excited.

The red mist will come down.

You will go visit the barriers.

Probably.

went last year and going again this year, the insurers we used last year coverd both us, anyone else in or on another vehicle and track (i.e. Armco barriers etc.) for both the prebook track days and the TF (taking it by tf you mean the general admission anyone can turn up and drive days? don't know how you spell the german word they use :D ) unless they have changed there policies this year. but will make sure I check.

as said id only do stuff if I was insured, no point other wise. if I cant get proper insurance then I will rent yes.

Single-seater & Cayman look fun!!!!

I usually take my own car, but have an experience day lined up soon.

Personally, all the stuff that could go wrong at the Ring & the chance of paying through the nose has put me off.
The UK has so many cool tracks to enjoy anyway without the armco expenses and having to cover an injured Germans lost income & hospital bills.

Do a track day.

There's no comparison between the 'ring and UK tracks - totally different experience.
