So I'm still undecided on what width spacers to go for on the front wheels. Just popped to the shops and had a quick look and I'm not sure if 10mm will be right or not. The 15mm spacers for my rear wheels will arrive on Tuesday, so once I have those fitted ill break out the old tape measure!

Took a pic to show just how bad the offset on the rear wheels looks. Fronts aren't too bad. But why aren't they the same offset?

All 4 wheels are exactly the same offset (ET51 for the austins iirc), it's just that the rear track width is narrower than the front, probably to do with clearance when fully loaded and VW playing it extra safe etc

Yeah it's rubbish! Been like that on Golfs since the mk3 days (and maybe earlier?!), first mod I did to my mk4 golf was 15mm rear spacers!

Getting the 'stance' right can be a funny old thing, I had 10mm front and rear on my mk5 ed30 and to me it was perfect as the car was lowered, same spacers on my standard suspension mk6 are perfect on the rear but I've left them off the front as they make the front wheels poke out from the arch line, lowered it would be spot on though!

That's interesting to hear. I was happy with the stance on my mk6.

So I googled track width and the rear end is 31mm narrower than the front. So 15mm spacers should fix things perfectly!

I am a little bit worried about fitting spacers i.e fitting modifications. Can you allay my fears beddie?

Well I've had spacers on all my VWs (8 cars and 15 years) with only 1 issue in all that time - a rear spacer fractured its hub centric ring but that was down to the brand of spacer used (FK automotive crap) rather than a fault with spacers in general,
Some people would say they increase wheel bearing loading and whilst that is true when taken to extremes, but when using 10/12/15mm spacers i don't see any issues - after all running aftermarket wheels such as BBS CH-r in 8.5 et47 is just like running the austins 7.5 et51 with a 16mm spacer

I used spacers on thousands of road miles and loads of track days including the Ring without any issues, it'll be reet

Hey Guys,

Been tracking this tread regarding the Spacers, the link on ebay -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281582120892?rmvSB=true#ht_800wt_882
Would be a good enough buy?
Also I will need 40mm Locking nuts?

Please advise the best way forward

Cheers
Doug

@hastd2, personally I wouldn't go for those spacers you have linked to, they could be perfectly fine but as I've had an issue with 'cheap' spacers in the past I personally won't use any other brand than H&R now
