gearbox question
« on: 08 May 2013, 15:50 »
Somebody mentioned that I may need to change my gearbox oil as its a little stiff going into first gear . The clutch was changed last year but not sure of when gearbox oil was done.
I took it to the garage today and the guy said that if it was the oil that needed changing, more than one gear would be clunking/stiff.

He also mentioned that the 1.8t are common withgearbox replacements.

I'm now hoping that my gearbox is not on its way out and hope that somebody could possibly give me some ideas as to what could be the problem

is it a new replacement or the gearbox that came with it, plates may not be lined properly, best way to find out is to get the flywheel and clutch out for that, is their any reciepts for work carried out on the gearbox?

There's none for the gearbox, just receipts to show the clutch was replaced with dual mass flywheel

could just be an ill fitted kit? problem would be that the warranty would of been with the previous owner, i would suggest getting someone to look at it, and upgrade time if required, it could just be you shifter throwing a wobbly

Depending on the mileage etc. gearbox oil change wouldn't go amiss either, someone on here did a change at nearing 100k and there wasn't anything left in there.

I would replace the oil as a first step tbh.

Mine is also stiff when its cold, just live with it. There is a video on how to do your gear linkage alignment I would so that first and see from there. As far as I know 1,8 boxes are good it's the 1,6 that have the 'chocolate' gearboxes.

3 easy cheap things you can try -
- change gearbox oil
- align gear linkage cables
- bleed you clutch slave cylinder
