golf gti steering rack sensor
Hey everyone im new to this but sure hers goes...
ive a 05 mark 5 golf gti i have an issue with the steering sensor light comming on ,
had the mechanic's reset the sensor light .
they have all driven it and can find not problem with the steering rack there is no play no knocking no loss of control with it .
I was just wondering has anyone else experienced it ??.
I have no issue replacing it though the mechanics are deeming that it is not necessary yet and they are baffled ..
It has been reset twice now but i really don't notice anything wrong in the handling of car.
Also i have replaced wishbones ,strut's etc al done in a proper V.W dealership.
Any input advice suggestion's would really be appriciated before i splash the buck's out and replace the column .
thanks in advance

Old thread, but my car has just started doing this.

It's most likely the same known sensor / rack fault my car has.

Basically try replacing the sensor, but you might need a new rack also....plus they recommend a 'part modified wiring loom' I am yet to find out if this is literally just wiring, or includes the sensor also...
I will update the thread...

the bad news is the rack and loom are ~£1k, no joke!

Update. The sensor is integral to the rack assembly.

VW also an updated wiring loom being required, persumably to go with an updated rack, which maybe the "Generation 2"  which the below links/documents alude to.

A New rack for my 05 plate 140ps GT TDi is currently only available as a genuine part.
However anyone reading this needing a new rack, try giving 'Power Steering Services' in Greenwich, S. London a call as they are able to get stock of the racks (possibly sourced from the OEM manuafacturer) at a reduced price compared to dealer / TPS.

The 'revised' loom however is OEM only from TPS / Dealer.

An expensive fix to turn out one cluster light for the MOT!!!

Guy at work had this on his 2k caddy (mk5 platform) eventually the light turned red after a few weeks and all power steering was lost, virtually impossible to steer, was told sensor is integral as said,so sourced a second hand rack from a mk5 and had it coded in ,been fine ever since.
