GTI rear discs

Hi folks can someone please tell me are the rear discs on a 1998 gti 8 valve 226mm/10mm? Cheers Steve W..

Yes they are.

8v gti, 16v gti, and vr6 are all the same.

If replacing the rear discs I would recommend new wheel bearings as well.

Because you would have to remove the old bearings from the discs to re-fit to the new discs and would probably damage them in the process, new bearings are fairly cheap and mk3's can be quite hard on rear bearings if the pre-load isn't set correctly so all in all its better to change the disc/pads/bearings in one hit for peace of mind.

Its also worth mentioning for this job that you will need the caliper rewind tool to compress the pistons back in to the caliper..this is a MUST as you will damage the caliper without it, its also highly likely that the two caliper carrier bracket allen bolts will be a pain to remove so its worth having a good 8mm allen socket that fits in to the bolt properly and even some irwin extractors in case you round the allen bolt out.
