Im with elephant your quote seems quite high compared to mine i paid £1000 when i was 20 with zero no claims on a valver with no points etc.

HAve you tried putting your parents/ girlfriend etc on the policy it bought my premium down by £400 just having them as named drivers.  Strange but suspose it gives the impression you are more responsible and my be driving the car less so a lower risk??

Wort a try

i added my mum and dad to that quote, brought it down quite a bit.

Were you insured third party for that price?

All i need to do now is find me a good J-plate, 3 door valver

I'm insured with Adrian Flux and not had any worries, they are really good with mods as well.

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

After seeing a fellow member get shafted by a certain superstore, I don't mind payinf a little more. Mine has been very good to me and always look at there quotes when I shop around. A extra £50 means nothing to me but should the worse happen I know I will be dealt with in a fair manner. Thats worth taking on board.

Brentacre also said I could modify the car without the premium increasing, only the excess goes up. Pretty cool I reckon, when some companies were still quoting me about £600-700 for something like a 1 litre fiesta, only a couple of hundred squid more for the car I really wanted

That was third party but fully comp was only about £150 more.  the reason i didn't insure it fully comp was that the excess came to around £900 for an under 21 driver. I thought i would have to go a reasonable way to do £900 of damage and thought the saving out weighed the risk as i could probable get it fixed cheaper than claim.

I now pay £930 fully comp as im over 21 with £250 excess

Don't forget that the area you live in affects the insurance too.

My old Mk2 16v was costing me about £750 fully comp with elephant in a decent area of Nottingham, then moving to London and changing jobs put it up by £100.

One trick a friend did with his Elephant policy was to insure his car at his parents address, but to tell Elephant that he keeps it overnight at his address in London.
You can't do much about your postcode, but that little trick can work, especially for students.
