Anyone got their insurance quotes yet ?
« on: 02 May 2013, 20:25 »
As above really, has anyone a got an insurance quote for the new GTD/GTi yet ?

My insurance on the Rocco is due for renewal on 25th of this month, and currently I'm with Aviva but changing to directline as they are £75 cheaper, after shopping around -so much for 4 years loyalty to Aviva

The Rocco at the moment with myself and the wife as named drivers fully comp, full no claims, one accident (grrrr another story), protected NCD, curtesy car plus and legal will be costing me £275 at the end of the month. Now the Rocco (a 2.0 TDi GT Bluemotion) is insurance group 22E, where as the GTD will be insurance group 26E. So whilst I'm expecting an increase come September (or whenever the car is delivered), I've got no idea how much as the cars still don't seem to be listed on the insurance companies databases ?

So anyone got any quotes ?

I tried phoning for a quote last night however couldn't get one as the car wasn't listed on their database yet. I'm hoping coming from a TT my quote is going to be cheaper but then the car is going to be more valuable (whenever I can get the deal concluded )

I got an online quote from swift cover for £300 full comp.  28 yo male, NCB of 7years, Cambridgeshire, Commuting, Garage.  I expect it to go up a little from this, maybe £330-350.

Sounded amazingly cheap to me.  Aviva take £500 from me for a Fiesta Zetec S... the bastards.  Needless to say they won't be getting any business or recommendations from me after ripping me off like this.  They have actually put my premiums up the last two years with no stated reason.  Each time I called angry and the sales man sweet talked me out of switching.  Thats not happening again.

Oh and here is the other thing about Aviva.  I added my wife as a second driver.  She is actually slightly older than me, and is obviously a woman.  Get this, premium goes UP?!?!?!  So I say "what the f**k is wrong with you?" and they give me some bullsh!t.  Adding a second driver is supposed to lower the premium!  Women are supposed to lower the premium!  Its not even a fancy car, a Fiesta!

Don't use Aviva, total waste of money.  They say "We are the most expensive, but we feel you'll never find service quite like ours!"  I say "Too right I won't, no one else is as sh!t as you."  And yes, they do that awesome rip off where they add every last piece of crap to the policy that you'll never need and don't even tell you they're doing it, but if you ever need them its all "oh well, you've got £1000 excess and you'll lose your NCB, and we'll double your premium..." etc etc go to hell.

I'm hoping this post well take away some of their potential customers.

Ok I've calmed down now.

You never know how good your insurance company are until you have to make a claim.

My 2 week old (405 miles on the clock) MK5 Golf GT Sport 170TDI was clattered by a bus that didn't stop when it was parked up. I found it about 12 feet from where I parked it. Witnesses left info about the bus and it was traced, with damage confirmed by the bus depot gaffer. Open and shut case of blame. Their insurance paid for everything and I didn't lose any no claims, but at renewal time 8 weeks later, Elephant saw fit to double my renewal premium from £430 to £850. I was apparently a bigger risk after my parked up car was hit by a bus. Needless to say I didn't renew with them and I would never touch the Admiral group of insurers again under principle. I'm expecting a MK7 GTD insurance premium of about £230, based on what a MK6 quote came in at. Yes it has 15PS more, but it has so much more safety kit and is the same insurance group.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Well, not that I want to get Bear going again , but a couple of years ago, I got a letter from Aviva stating that Shell UK (the Petrol forecourt division), was claiming against me for damaging one of their Petrol Pumps. I was quite shocked when I saw the letter and immediately contacted Aviva. It transpired that the incident occurred in a village in Kent, and on the day (at at the time of the alleged incident) I was at my offices in Warrington Cheshire (190 miles away), in a meeting with a very important client. We had video footage of my car leaving our car park (part of our security system) at 5.20pm, and the incident occurred at 4.15pm. So unless I had a way of travelling nearly 200 miles in 1 hour it was totally impossible for me to be there.

As far as I was concerned, it was a simple case of mistaken identity. However it took over a year and countless letters and calls to the idiots at Aviva to get it sorted. They were not in the least bit pro-active, and it was me that had to prove my innocence, not Shell who had to prove me guilty - I did all the casing not them ! Shell eventually admitted, that their CCTV showed the car as a White Honda (I at the time had a black MK5 Golf - quite similar eh?), and the guys name was Aziz (mine is Andrew) !!!! For 6 months afterwards I continued to battle them as they had this down on my record as one incident, even though it was nothing to do with me, and I was 200 miles away at the time !

Needless to say, I only stayed with them last year whilst the case was closed, but made myself a promise that even if they were the cheapest, (which they are not by £75), I still wouldn't go with them !

They are sh!t mate.  They try to make out that the reason they are so expensive is that they will look after you much better but the instant you need their help they do everything possible to a) avoid helping and b) use the opportunity to pinch more money from you.

To be honest I think all insurance is a complete scam.  If you have to make a claim, unless it is a really big one, they just get their money back through excess and doubling your premiums.  You'll never get value for money.

I think a much better system would be if everyone received basic cover through our road tax and we could choose to supplement this or not with a private company as we needed.
