GOT MY GOLF
« on: 05 August 2005, 07:54 »
What a bloody trip just got in at 7.30am after leaving 12pm yesterday. what can i say the 16 vavlve is very quick indeed enjoyed the ride back but coz i drove the car so hard i had a slight problem and i am hoping some of you have come accross it before. coming to a round about and the brake pedal goes to the floor  little or no brakes pull over check them out no fluid no stopping power f**k all but notice the engine bays soaking not of oil but brake fluids me thinks.
anyway i start pumping the brake trying to get something then all of the sudden smoke when i press the brake and its coming from the gearbox side  has anyone seen this and is it an easy fix?
sorry if i sound dumb but i need coffee and sleep

jason i think i might be able to shed some light, if you check through all the reciepts etc, i think it had new brake pipes etc for its mot in march, im wondering if one of the unions where they fit to the bulk head has come loose??? i think this is where the problem must be as you describe 'smoke' this must be where when you press the brake pedal a spray of brake fluid its going onto the hot exhaust manifold, hence the smoke.

hopefully it will be a case of tightening it up etc, topping up the fluid and then bleeding the brakes!!!

In the meantime be carful of your paintwork if you've got brake fluid spraying out everywhere! Wouldn't want to ruin some lovely oak green paint ;) (I'm assuming it's Gaz's oakie you bought)

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

As he said clean any paintwork that has brake fluid on as its corrosive.

It might aswell have brake fluid/nitromors on the bottle.
Didn't notice a couple of splashes on the wing of my last 8v when I was bleeding the brakes. Next thing I knew the were loads of little bubbles along the top of the wing, always put something over the wing now.

Follow all the metal pipes from under the brake servo to where the disapear under the car, might be tricky with all that engine in the way

Then get underneath and follow them to the front calipers and then the rears, you'll soon find the source of the leak!
