Younger brothers...He bought the damn car!
« on: 24 April 2013, 21:16 »
I am 23 and my brother is 21, we are both best friends, but I fear he is about to go and buy something silly. I always look out for him, naturally, and he usually listens to me but not this time...

He is about to sell his mk4 130pd, borrow £7-8kish and buy a '03 plate RS6.

The interest cost of the loan is about £1k and the insurance is ONLY 900 f**king quid, he is already paying 600ish for the f**king dub!

At first I didn't believe him on the price of everything but have checked all of his sources for the finance & insurance, and the car is £8kish.

I have said all I can, and done the whole disappointed speech etc etc, no more I can do. Chris is young and doing it while he still can with minimal out goings etc.

I'm at a loose end, I'm about to go on holiday and all I'm doing is worrying that he is pouring his money away!

Let him do it, he'll soon get fed up with putting fuel in it!

I know what its like mate. Me and my younger brother are bezzy mates too, and he went and bought an A3 TDI S-Line last year for 13k! Got it on finance which I tried to talk him out of, but he's young, free and single, and has minimal outgoings. He's on a good wage too so there's only so much you can do, even if you do feel like grabbing him by the collar and shaking some sense into him!

He doesn't know much anything about cars either, so to him it's new, looks nice, and he thinks it gives him status.

He'll learn in time!

Mehhhhhhh, as said I cannot do any more.

I'll just be on stand by with my spanner when the box chews it self to pieces!

My rough maths reckon he will loose out on maybe £2kish if he sells it in 12 months time...Fool!!

£900 insurance is the least of his worries if he's buying an RS6...

I used to own one and know just how much they cost to run & it's not the petrol...

£450.00 (£650.00 from dealers) for a set of front disc's & they only last 12K. The RS6 has suspension issues - if it has aftermarket suspension it should be fine..

The gearboxes are prone to breaking and a repaired replacement is about £3K.

I had to have a new alternator and due to the design of the car you have to remove the oil cooler and 9/10 times it will need replacing and my total bill came to £3.5K - I got most of that back from Audi as it was just out of warranty.

The bills just mount up & nothing is cheap...

I would worry about a 21 year old driving a 450BHP car so I understand your concern...
